World of Tanks has 40 Million registered users worldwide
World of Tanks has 40 Million registered users worldwide, according to an announcement from Wargaming. This number is twice as big as the game’s previous milestone set in early 2012.
In addition, the game has also set a new PCCU record in Russia with over 500,000 players simultaneously on one game server. The company expects further growth for both numbers, as World of Tanks has seen an increasing number of new players with the launch of Update 8.0.

Wargaming acquires Australian middleware company BigWorld for $45 million
Wargaming has acquired BigWorld, an Australian middleware company for $45 million. The World of Tanks developer said the acquisition will “make internal development more efficient,” while help the firm reach its $200 million a year revenue goal as it also prepared World of Warplanes for launch. “BigWorld has a licensing business of its own, and we will continue to support its customers,” Wargaming boss Victor Kislyi told VentureBeat. “We will be in a position in the future, if everything goes right, to offer the combined BigWorld and Wargaming technology to anyone who wants to do an MMO.”

Wargaming announces second annual International Ural Steel Championships
Wargaming has announced the second annual International Ural Steel Championships will be held in Moscow with the Grand Finals taking place September 15-16 at the CSKA Sport Arena. The prize is $77,000 and registration begins today and continues through July 31. Sixteen teams of the world’s best World of Tanks gamers from America, Europe, Russia, China, and Southeast Asia will compete on six battle maps for their shot at the bragging rights of Ural Steel Championship 2012 winner. The first Ural Steel Championship was held last year smf featured more than 40,000 players from nearly 30 countries. GDC Europe organizers have announced a World of Tanks developer session from Wargaming.net, and mobile a postmortem on mobile title Diamond Dash. World of Tanks updated in SEA, updates to be global from today
Wargaming has announced updates 7.3 and 7.4 for World of Tanks are now available in Southeast Asiam which puts the region on par with the game globally. From today onward, World of Tanks updates in SEA will be synchronized with the rest of the world. Update 7.3 introduces additions to the armored lines of the Soviet heavy tanks, as well as a new battle arena – the Dragon’s Ridge, the first battleground set in Asia. Two new game modes – Encounter Battle and Assault – are were introduced with update 7.4. The release also updates the French tech tree with new long-range SPGs and tank destroyers. Two new maps – Widepark and Airfield – take place on the streets of a partially ruined European town and in the North African desert, respectively.

The British are coming to World of Tanks
Wargaming.net has announced World of Tanks will soon be the recipient of British tanks via vehicles such as the Crusader, Black Prince, Centurion and Conqueror. “The British tanks are by far the most intriguing models we’ve come across over the course of World of Tanks development,” said lead producer Sergey Burkatovskiy. “In giving the players two distinct, yet very different types of vehicles, the development team has worked very carefully to make sure that balance not only fits into the current game, but is also one that’s extremely fun. World of Tanks developer Wargaming.net is making a bid for the mainland Chinese market. Gamasutra reports the company has signed a deal with KongZhong Corporation to publish its range locally. Although Wargaming.net has several popular free to play titles, World of Tanks is the biggie, with up to 450,000 players online simultaneously.

As part of National Military Appreciation Month, AMVETS, Homes for our Troops, the Military Families Fund and Paralyzed Veterans of America will receive 10% of proceeds given from all US-based purchases of gold packs and 75% of the T14 package.

World of Tanks is celebrating its first anniversary by releasing some interesting stats regarding its 24 million registered players. For instance: 350 million battles have been fought, 75 billion shells have been fired with 48 billion direct hits, over 8 billion armored vehicles have been destroyed, and at one time, the game boasted 450,000 players online at one time, breaking its previous Guinness World Record.
