World of Warplanes’ open beta launches today in Russia and North America. Those in Europe can get in on the action Thursday, July 4. Wargaming has announced it will offer Xbox 360 players a free trial of World of Tanks to Silver members of Xbox Live. While a Gold membership will still be needed to play the free-to-play game online at launch, this way everyone can try before they buy. World of Tanks will release on Xbox 360 this summer. World of Warships has a cinematic trailer below the break for you to ogle. The upcoming MMO from Wargaming.net was once known as World of Battleships, and the game will be on show at E3 next week. The firm will also be showing off its first console title at the conference in the works at Wargaming West, formerly Day One Studios.

NVIDIA has announced plans to host a World of Tanks International open tournament. It will be held in Asia Pacific, China, Europe, Russia and the Americas where the best seven-member teams will compete for with the best out of three games the winner. The tournament will last for four weeks before Grand Finals where up to $100,000 in prizes will be offered, along with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600 card. Wargaming has announced World of Battleships has been renamed World of Warships. The gameplay in the free-to-play naval game will stay the same, only the name has changed. The title will become part of the Wargaming.net common economic system, allowing players to distribute resources between three of the firm’s “World of” titles. It’s out next year. Thanks, Massively.

Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi will discuss in his session titled “World of Free-to-Play – Triple A by Wargaming.net,” how the F2P business model was “essential to the success” of World of Tanks, and how the model could eventually edge out boxed retail.
