Schafer: This is Brütal Legend’s year

VG247 met up with master games designer Tim Schafer at E3 last week, who told us he feels that 2009 is Brütal Legend’s year.
“This has been a great year for us. I’d thought we’d never get there,” he said when asked about how he sees Brütal Legend fitting in alongside the myriad of shooters and rhythm action games on show at the LACC.
“We’d be showing it and I’d walk up and there’d be this huge game on a billboard and I’d be like, ‘I wonder if we’ll ever get there, we’ll probably never get there,’ and now this year there’s Brütal Legend up there.
“I really feel like this is Brütal Legend’s year, and it really feels like it does stand out among the other games,” said Schafer.
Brütal Legend is out for Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year. That is, if Activision’s move to block the game’s release doesn’t bear fruit.

Tim Schafer: fans worry too much about game sales

Doublefine daddy Tim Schafer thinks you should stop studying the NPDs until you’re bloody and broken and get on with your life. His rationale: Publishers don’t give two flips about sales so long as you make great games.
“Fans worry too much about sales, to tell you the truth,” he told MTV Multiplayer. “As long as you make a cool game, publishers want to talk to you… [They say] ‘We liked Psychonauts and we think we could have sold it better’.”
Schafer doesn’t plan on breaking too many marketing teams, though. Speaking of his upcoming title, Brutal Legend, he said:
“[It is] a game that naturally has more commercial hooks, like hot babes and Jack Black.”
The man’s cracked the code, clearly. Brutal Legend will hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year.

GDC: DoubleFine posts point-and-click Schafer adventure

Need something to do before the GDC keynotes kick off tomorrow? Play this point-and-click DoubleFine adventure on your personal computer.
The game gives you control of Tim Schafer as he readies himself to MC this year’s GDC awards. You need to help the Brutal Legend developer get his jokes together before heading to the stage. It’s kind of fun.
So do it.

Brutal Legend to be shown at GDC

DoubleFine’s Brutal Legend is to get a viewing at GDC, according to Kotaku.
There’s no more detail, but what else do you need? The Jack Black rock-off’s hotter than a lump of lava in a burning sack.
GDC’s on in San Francisco at the end of March.

Psychonauts soundtrack available online

Doublefine’s released CDs of both the original Psychonauts soundtrack and the “original cinematic score,” as you can see on the developer’s website.
There are links there to the discs on Amazon, Napster, and the like.
You may as well. It’s not as though you need your money for anything else, is it?
Thanks, Joystiq.

Report: Acti threatens to sue EA over Brutal Legend publishing rights

Jesus. According to this Variety report, Activision is threatening to sue EA over rights to publish DoubleFine’s Brutal Legend.
Apparently a letter has been sent to EA, and possibly DoubleFine itself. Activision’s supposedly claiming it thought it was still in negotiations to publish the game and therefore see’s EA’s deal on the title as invalid.
This, in no way, sounds as though Activision fucked up by letting the game go only to realise how much buzz surrounded the project a few months down the line. No way.
An EA staffer told Variety, “We doubt that Activision would try to sue. That would be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy.”
Story of the day.
