Aion launches in Europe
Aion’s launched in Europe, NCsoft confirmed today.
The MMO is by far the largest game of its type taking off this year, and those looking to inhabit the European servers will no doubt be praying the crippling rush of the game’s pre-start program has calmed somewhat.
“We’re extremely excited to finally deliver the game to Western audiences and believe they will enjoy Aion as much as Eastern players have,” said Jaeho Lee, CEO NCsoft West.
“The effort we put into Westernising Aion is unprecedented in our industry. Players will experience a completely rewritten storyline spanning more than two-million words, along with a variety of enhancements specifically for Western audiences.”

Aion server queues unlikely to be “repeated regularly”
NCsoft MMO Aion’s been experiencing some clogging issues since it went live yesterday, with many seeing waits of several hours before being able to get a-levelling.
The publisher isn’t worried.
“This isn’t a scenario that’s likely to be repeated regularly since it’s really just about that initial rush of players trying to gain access to the game,” a rep told EG.
“These next few days we will be calculating data and weighing the ideal time to open more servers. I think that the community will understand how important a healthily populated server in a game with PvPvE is, and that we do not want to go down the low-pop server path.”
The game releases in Europe on Friday.

Aion was designed for global launch “from the beginning”
NCsoft said today that imminent MMO Aion was constructed from the ground-up to appeal to both Asian and western gamers.
“From the beginning, Aion was designed for a global audience,” said lead desginer Yong Chan Jee, speaking in the game’s latest video podcast.
“Aion adopted a global mind-set, not only in gameplay, but also in other components of the game, such as its visuals, that were designed to embrace both east and west.”
The game has been active in Korea for the past year, and has seen high levels of activity so far. More than 300,000 in the west have activated pre-orders ahead of launch later this month.
Americans get their hands on the western version on September 22, with Europeans getting in on the action three days later.

Western Aion activated pre-orders pass 300,000
NCsoft MMO Aion now has more than 300,000 activated pre-orders ahead of its western launch later this month, Euro MD Véronique Lallier told VG247 yesterday.
“Aion’s starting to achieve nice numbers,” said the boss. “We are over 300,000 activated pre-orders in the West.
“It’s looking healthy. It’s nice and healthy two weeks before the launch… It looks very good at the moment.”
Aion project lead Christian-Peter Heimbach added that the game’s real western test will come post-launch.
“We have a strong belief in the game,” he said. “We know the quality… and we also have hard numbers, as Vero already confirmed. We’re happy to say that we’re really confident.
“The next thing to prove, of course, is that we can keep this up. I think there’s a solid audience out there eager to play a new MMO, so I think we’re on a good path.”
Aion releases on September 22 in the US and September 25 in Europe.

After the break. The NCsoft fantasy MMO’s just silly-pretty, as the footage testifies.
Whether you pick the elyos or asmodians you’re going to be doing a lot of fighting. For eternity, apparently.
It’s out on September 25.

Aion has lengthy video, looks bloody amazing

Good gravy. Aion’s first proper dev diary lies after the break, showing an MMO like no other. Whether or not it p;lays like a bag of shit is yet to be determined, but on the visual front it looks astonishing.
There’s a bunch of stuff in there, including the game’s flight ability and a good explanation of the world and races.
It’s out in the West later this year. Thanks, Massively.

Aion: Tower of Eternity vid shows off Ishalgen Zone

NCsoft’s released a trailer of Aion’s Ishalgen Zone: stream it here.
The Korean MMO’s out in the West this year, and does a good job of looking extremely pretty. Apparently:
The island of Ishalgen is a fragment of Asmodae, slowly being pulled apart by several warring factions. The Ulgorn Bandits have established themselves quite comfortably within the Aldelle Village, claiming both the breathtaking Lake Tunapre as well as the mysterious Munihele Forest as their own. Tensions run high within the Odella Plantation, where the fierce Gray Mane Mau have enslaved the Dundun Skurvs to cultivate Odella. Suspicious by nature, the Ulgorn Bandits have found themselves with even more to worry about, as a strange ship carrying unfamiliar faces has recently shown up along the Anturoon Coast. The Ishalgen Prison Camp with its seething hordes of undead remains one of the few uncontested regions of the island, although it is rumored to harbor a powerful secret.
More on this soon, hopefully.

Aion pegged for autumn 2009

NCsoft’s confirmed that Korean MMO Aion will launch in the US and Europe this autumn.
The game was supposed to release at the end of last year, but localization caused the delay, apparently.
“The localization effort is enormous, with a vast amount of content. Aion is not simply being translated, a team of dedicated content writers are re-creating the written dialogue and content to provide AAA quality and to ensure that it is culturally relevant for our audience. We are going to do this launch ‘right’ rather than fast,” executive producer Lance Stites said in an open letter on the game’s site.
The fantasy MMO’s been a smash in its native Korea, so definitely one to watch.

NCSoft Europe CEO: New City of Heroes titles planned, Aion for Q4 2008 release
Speaking to VG247, NCSoft Europe CEO Geoff Heath has confirmed that the company is planning to launch new titles in the City of Heroes franchise “in the next couple of years” and will bring Korean swords-and-sorcery MMO Aion: Tower of Eternity to Europe in “Q4 of this year.”
“We have some major plans for City of Heroes for the future,” he said. “Again, for this year we’re going to be doing regular updates, but there’s a lot of exciting stuff going on around City of Heroes, not for this year in terms of new releases, but certainly in the next couple of years.”
He added, talking of an Aion release date, “We’re being as brave as saying Q4 of this year. Within a month or two I’m sure we’ll firm the exact date up.”
Heath was talking on the back of strong full year financials, which showed near-static sales but good profit increase.
“They’re a solid set of results,” said Heath, adding, “For the UK and Europe, I think it’s good that the group made a good profit, and also we’re forecasting growing again this year. Europe is a healthy part of it these days.”
Heath also confirmed previous reports that NCSoft’s first PS3 MMO is to be shown this year.
“We’re going to be showing some stuff on PS3 later this year,” he said. We’re not quite ready to say what it is yet.”
