Did you know Star Trek Online was still a thing? It sure is, and it's expanding.

Star Trek Online is now available on PS4 and Xbox One, free-to-play for any and all comers.

In Star Trek Online, players create a unique captain character and take command of a spaceship, unleashing them on an unsuspecting galaxy. Choose between Federation, Klingon or Romulan factions with appropriate ship and tech to match; you can play as any number of races within each faction.

Launched in February 2010, Star Trek Online has been continuously updated with new content and features. The last expansion, Delta Rising, permits travel to the Delta Quadrant featured in Star Trek: Voyager - but the rest of the MMORPG's content ranges far and wide across the science fiction universe's history.

This is a heartening reminder that Cryptic Studios is still whirring away. The Perfect World subsidiary is one of the few developers willing to bring MMO experiences to consoles, and also delivered Neverwinter.
