Need for Speed will require an internet connection

The upcoming Need for Speed reboot will require an internet connection.

Need for Speed, the new Ghost Games developed title, will have integral components that rely on an internet connection.

Answering a fan inquiry on Twitter, the game's official account said that the benefits of having an internet connection is "more variety and a more rewarding experience with friends."

Before later elaborating that being connected will "allow your friends to be part of your narrative experience, something only possible through connected play." That comment is interesting when you look at the way Rivals handled it. That game too required an internet connection, but populated the world with AI players whenever the connection would drop.

Need for Speed Rivals' AllDrive system will return. It will be an improved version and will feature dedicated servers.

Despite the online connection requirement, the official account clarified that the game will have both single-player and multiplayer

Need for Speed will get a proper reveal at E3 in June.
