Oculus acquires Surreal Vision which specializes in generating real-time, realistic 3D worlds

Oculus announced yesterday it has acquired Surreal Vision, a startup which specializes in generating real-time, realistic 3D worlds.

According to a blog post on the Oculus website, Surreal Vision is one of the "top computer vision teams in the world," focused on real-time 3D scene reconstruction.

Oculus said the company's tech generates "great scene reconstruction" which will enable a new level of "presence and telepresence" by allowing the Oculus Rift users to "move around the real world and interact with real-world objects."

Examples of what Surreal Vision creates can be found on co-founder Richard Newcombe's YouTube channel.

The first consumer model of Oculus Rift will be released in early 2016.
