Bloodborne: Cathedral Ward closed door mystery solved

The mystery of the locked door at the bottom of the Cathedral Ward in Bloodborne has been solved.

Bloodborne, like earlier From Software games, is filled with doors that don't open the first time you try them. Some will give you "locked" messages, others "does not open from this side". Some of these will open eventually through regular progression, while others require you to do a bit of exploring first.

Except this one door in the Cathedral Ward, to the left of a chest.

Illusory wall, who has a blog that explores the mysteries of Souls games, has confirmed that the door indeed leads back to the end of the Great Bridge, where you fight the Cleric Beast. The door still does not actually open, but you can clearly see that it leads back to the Cathedral Ward.

The trick involves an item that's underused by many players: Shining Coins. Let him demonstrate:
