The new PS4 firmware is pretty boring

Wednesday, 23rd July 2014 01:09 GMT By Brenna Hillier

A new PS4 firmware update is available but it’s not as exciting as we expected.

Fire up your PS4 now to download the latest firmware update, version 1.74.

Unfortunately it doesn’t introduce any fancy new features; according to the patch notes, the update’s only contribution is that “system software stability during use of some features has been improved”.

Sony promised news about this firmware update yesterday, so we’re a little disappointed to find it’s so feature-slim after the build up.

On the bright side, it only takes a few minutes to download and install, and then you can jump straight back into the Destiny beta; as you no doubt know, you need the latest firmware update to access the PSN.

Thanks, IGN.

Can’t hate on that juicy stability and those improved features!

This is not the firmware update they were referring to. They made that pretty clear, actually.

The ps4 feels super unfinished. Like a product launched unready. At least the ui feels like that.

The controllers also have lots of production issues. I had two. Both have been faulty. Getting my third one this week. Hoping that it wont have issues. Maybe that was just bad luck though.

I am enjoying the ps4 now. Much more so than at launch (ps+ helps a lot) but they really have been lucky that Ms fucked up THAT badly.

So very very lucky.I just hope that they aren’t getting lazy now. What they have is not good enough to get lazy.

I am buying games for it. I play it. I like it. I cant wait for some games that are coming out soon for the system and i will probably buy some ps4 versions of games eventhough my pc is technically miles ahead of the ps4. So I support the system.i want it to succeed.

I criticize it because I feel that at some points it needs massive improvements, not because I want to bash the system.

I don’t give a fuck about on which system I play and who has made it. I judge the experience and not the brand.

I leave that to the teenagers.

Lots of hype about the ps 4 on the Internet and for the most part it is undeserved imo. It’s a hype based on a still undelivered promise. I feel like many just try to justify their purchase tbh.

It’s an okay console but at the same time it also feels like a naked hobo stranded on an island not knowing what to do with himself, wandering the beach, hoping to find some useful gear. Let’s hope that he will find some decent stuff soon.

I’ll be interested when they bring back audio/video/picture file USB support like the old PS3 had. HUGE step backwards taking that all away.
