PlayStation’s commitment to indies was highlighted at a special event at SCE America HQ today, with Sony announcing over 100 indie games are on their way to PS4 and Vita.

PlayStation publisher and developer relations vice president Adam Boyes confirmed the number of games in the works, according to Destructoid.

He also said over 1,000 developers are now licensed to self-publish on PlayStation platforms, and 21 self-published titles have landed on PS4 so far.

Over 20 million self-published games have been sold with an attach rate of three per console.

As for individual titles, Outlast has been downloaded 1.8 million times, Don’t Starve has been downloaded over a million times, and the free-to-play Warframe follows Netflix as the second most downloaded item on the PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation Blog has detailed a number of new indies confirmed for PlayStation platforms:

Sony is really impressive when it comes to indies compared to MS or Nintendo. Good stuff.

Although they are not indies, i do hope the devs behind torchlight 2 will like to release it on consoles, seeing how great is the sony approach torwards small devs, and the not so good experience they gad with microsoft with torchlight, sony please made that happen, i want torchlight 2 on consoles

@ManuOtaku hmm, it’s an interesting thought. Not sure what’s going on with Runic at the moment though; two of its chief creatives have left, and there’s been no word on what it’s doing since TL2 wrapped.

I’m super excited by this indie news today. I love loading up the PS Store and finding loads of new things to check out. Hope Microsoft and Nintendo follow suit.

@Brenna Hillier Agree honey, at least nintendo is trying, not in the same level as sony, but they are taking few steps from time to time. As for microsoft lets wait and see, runic was part of the developers that had a bad experience with microsoft.

@Erthazus inde crapware most of those games are pure junk. Cellphone crapware. I hate this generation for that. The average person can go make some steaming hot pile of crap and put it out. And here is Sony sucking up all the junk . I’m glad Microsoft and Nintendo don’t just allow anyone in. It’s like a really good club compared to a house party. Yeah those house parties are ok but nothing beats the club

Nice. Spelunky needs to be on every system period.

Good on Adam Boyes and really shame on MS… seriously, they were the pioneers of indie movement on consoles. The Spelunky HD made its debut on the freaking 360, along with Fez, Braid and many others.

Those that are begging for AAA titles obviously don’t get how it works. These machines has only been out for 6 months lol
Anyway I for one is pleased to see these indies coming as I grew up on Master System and Mega Drive so these smaller titles are welcomed. Kids today, all they want is Micheal Bay games. Good on ‘em.

Some great looking, fun titles there. I’d not heard of Axiom Verge at all but the trailer really knows where it’s going. :)

And, I guess that’s the point. I’d not heard of some of these games (even though I enjoy many of the fruits of the Indie scene on my gaming PC) and so I benefit by having more content available those developers benefit by reaching more potential customers.

    Everybody benefits.

Yea, thats why i splashed out on a new PS4, cant wait for all that indi goodness to surge through its capacitors and diodes and land on my shiny new hd tv in all its glory,……. its enough to make the languid dance with joy.

i know id@xbox has some positive buzz, but it’s hard to not feel better about sony’s indie push.

they were out there way before microsoft, beating the drum of these amazing titles. it took a backlash for microsoft to change their ways.

it’s infathomable to me how a company could fail to initially back smaller studios in after 2012 where titles like minecraft and journey were all anyone talked about. how could you have been that tonedeaf?

It’s not just about the policies. The parity clause isn’t the ultimate indie killer or something unforgivable. Hell, Nintendo has some great indie policies but not even they’ are getting this kind of support.

The key to all of this is Boyes. He is not just another exec, spokesperson or the usual “occasional gamer”. He is a hardcore, always active gamer who can be seen playing games regularly on PSN. Seriously, no one except for a classic gamer would pursue something like Nidhogg for a console. No exec would ever go after something as weird and super niche like this.
