Update 3: Activision has said it will collaborate with Microsoft “in an effort to release” The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One at some point.

A reason for the delay is still unknown, but according to an spokesperson for the company speaking with Eurogamer, the game will still be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and the PC in May as previously announced.

“We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One,” the Activision spokesperson told Eurogamer.

Original story and previous updates follow below.

Update 2: The Xbox One version of movie tie-in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been put on hold by Activision.

UPDATE: According to a statement from Activision passed to MCV, the Xbox One version of the game has been put on hold with no reason given.

“We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One. When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD.”

Original story: The game is still listed for release on Wii U, 3DS, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4, but the omission of the Xbox One version has sent spider-senses tingling.

Retailers such as and are still listing the Xbox One game.

An anonymous source has told Gamers Honest Truth that the Xbox One version of the game has been put on hold indefinitely, but that report is written by a chap called “The Badger” so we’ll take it with a pinch of bovine tuberculosis for now.

Worth noting that the Xbox One version on Amazon is the only version that doesn’t have its proper boxart, just the generic image. THE PLOT DICKENS

Well this game was going to flop anyway……but still….this is concerning…..why the hell would they cancel this for the XBO?

Good to see another console not get a game for once WII U is always missing out on games.

Except this particular game is still coming to the Wii U and not the XBO.

Some of the tactics of these third party developers disgust me, because it’s as clear as day, that play favoritism to the most popular console. We saw it with the 360 and PS3, now the tables have turned this time around.

I may take some flak for saying this, but I’d guess the reason the XB One version was delayed due to unsatisfactory performance. Not sales or any tomfoolery like that, but needing some polish. P’s and frames and all that. It has been quite the under performer so far this gen (obviously better than Wii U, though).

Maybe waiting on performance tweaks or the DX12 stuff from MS to achieve performance parity with the PS4 version? Doesnt want to release a game that fuels the fire of fanboys?

I love the part where nobody is bothering to actually explain WHY the game isn’t being released.

    @Mike W
Don’t think that’s how these things work. They aren’t withholding a game to spite the system. That is a silly business tactic. They want to make money. Withholding a game like that would net them less money. Most likely like another said they are running into a snag in development that they are having a hard time fixing and it’s eating up to much of their time and money.

@Michael Ireland Yeah that’s the part that’s bugging me too. I can’t think of another time when something was delayed or cancelled and no one tells us why…
