Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition in development for Xbox One, but Blizzard can’t confirm a release yet

Diablo 3 is in development for Xbox One, Blizzard has said, noting that despite the game being in development, a release announcement is yet to be made.

Speaking to Videogamer, lead producer Alex Mayberry said that this is the same path they took with developing for Xbox 360 and PS3, despite not actually announcing an Xbox One release of the game.

“We have that pipeline worked out, We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.

“The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”

Mayberry added that he’s not aware of contract details with Microsoft and thus won’t comment on a release confirmation for the RPG.

Developing for two platforms usually means that there’s a release expected somewhere down the line, so an Xbox One version is very likely. Especially considering the initial announcement of the game coming to consoles only named the PS3 version of the game.

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition is currently only announced for PS4 and will include both the original Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls, the game’s expansion pack.

Reaper of Souls comes out tomorrow worldwide for PC.

So they’re working on a game for the Xbox one, that they don’t know when they’re going to release it???

    Did I read that right?

@Mike W Yep, there is probably one unknown aspect they are keeping from us.

They obviously can’t talk about the XB1 version yet.

Why? Sony moneyhatting. Same deal happened with the last-gen versions.

Expect to hear a date whenever PS4 gets a date (or they’ll completely ignore the Xbox version like last time and it’ll mysteriously show up on launch day).

Yea I was thinking the same thing. Well they’re demoing the freaking game next month at PAX east, I’m hoping we’re going to get a release date…….. for the PS4 version at least.

Damn MS is catching a beating with the XBO……hopefully quantum break changes all that. :)

@Hcw87 did that actually happen, any proof/news?

Because I was wondering about that (they never wanted to talk about it and no PR, then suddenly RELEASED)

Would be the weirdest “exclusive like” deal ever.

You can make the game for Xbone but you cant talk about it until release, here is a 100K $ :)

Nothing being reported on it, but if it was a bigger game (if it happened with Watch Dogs for example), then i’m sure we’d hear about it.

It’s just weird, they must have known they’d make a XB1 version when they started working on the PS4 version. Apparently the XB1 devkits were delayed for them, but that doesn’t explain the weird circumstances with the XB360+PS3 versions.
