Far Cry 4 set in the Himalayas or nearby location, according to insider – rumour

Thursday, 20th February 2014 08:31 GMT By Dave Cook

Far Cry 4 is allegedly set in the Himalayas, according to industry insider Superannuation. He’s got a strong track record with this kind of thing, but his claim should still be treated as rumour.

The claim follows rumours that Far Cry 4 is currently in development over at Ubisoft Shanghai, according to the LinkedIn CV of one employee.

It went down over on Twitter:

Oops. But this isn’t entirely a far-fetched claim, seeing as Far Cry has already done jungles and deserts, it could be that Ubisoft Shanghai wants to try out a snow environment next. The mention of monsters could come as worrying for some though.

Ubisoft has declined to comment.

What do you think?

Who? Is this guy another one of those “insiders” on NeoGAF who start rumours then crawl up in the corner and cry because people attack them?

@1 Nope. He’s got a clean track-record. Been following his leaks for years. The guy knows things even we don’t.

i just recently started playing far cry 3. i played the first one too and i am one of those who really enjoyed fc2.

it´s a fun game. i really enjoyed it. i love the engine it runs on. everything runs pretty damn well on it. i couldn´t help but wanting to play a horror game on this engine. when you approach the dr´s house at night it´s pretty atmospheric. i played it for 20+ hours now.

then i started playing dayZ and didn´t touch fc3 since then. after 50+ hours of playing dayZ i booted fc3 up again yesterday and what happened is: it felt like a boring piece of shit to me. running around hunting, shooting bandits felt dull and completely meaningless to me. i am an owerpowered hero anyway. i can kill an attacking tiger in a heartbeat, can kill every enemy in an enemy base in under 5 minutes etc. etc. it almost disgusted me to play it :) felt shallow, pretty but empty. like i´d only waste my time here. no goals to accomplish.

it´s insane really how immersive a game like dayZ can be despite it´s severe flaws and sometimes brutal emptiness…but then when you hear a shot in the distance, maybe someone talking to you but you cannot understand because the signal isn´t loud enogh (yet! they´re coming closer!) and then finally see a few guys chasing you, running out of the tree line, after you just healed your character from a broken leg and a disease, found an m4 plus 20 rounds, barely alive but just became optimistic again, it feels as if you´d be on that field yourself. you don´t want to die. not now. it really is something i have rarely, if ever encountered in a game.

it, yet again, showed me how boring and dull mainstream games can be. they might look good, play perfectly well, are entertaining, sometimes fun but they often just lack a soul. they become more and more forgetabble. it´s a shame. gaming can be so much more than that. it´s a pretty powerful medium really. i am thankful that games like dayz or demons souls still exist to prove that.

It’s not like their haven’t been monsters in the Far Cry universe before.

It worked in that game and if they go for the right tone like they did with predator I have faith that it will work in this one too
