Wolfenstein: The New Order dated, pre-orders net DOOM beta access

Wednesday, 19th February 2014 14:59 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Wolfenstein: The New Order has been given a release date by Bethesda, along with the news that all pre-orders of the MachineGames’ developed title will be granted beta access to the next DOOM title from id Software.

The DOOM beta comes with each pre-ordered copy of Wolfenstein. Bethesda did not provide additional information on the DOOM title, so it’s unknown at present whether it is the long-awaited DOOM 4 or a different entry in the series; however, all signs point to DOOM 4.

Former id Software co-founder Tim Willits said during QuakeCon 2013 that DOOM 4 was being retooled as of 2011, but there was nothing to discuss at the time. Last we heard, the game is slated for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

If you follow the link to the website in the paragraph above, you will note the following information:

“An insert will be included inside your boxed copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order. This insert will include a key code along with code redemption instructions. Once the key code is redeemed, you’ll be registered to participate in the DOOM beta once it begins. Check back with the website for updated information,” the disclaimer reads.

“Although you’ll receive the DOOM beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the DOOM beta won’t begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the DOOM beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process.”

Bethesda has said that the only way to ensure access to the beta, is through pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order, currently.

Wolfenstein is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in North America on May 20 and throughout Europe on May 23.

Box art is posted below along with a new gameplay trailer.

It has to be DOOM 4. The Lord knows we don’t need another DOOM 3 edition.

    Doom 4 beta?

Bullshit. How is this even possible? Is it going to be a beta for a multiplayer match? and without public opinion this is not a beta. this is a demo.

    @Erthazus

I am not counting on seeing a real DOOM 4 in my life time.

By real I mean actual DOOM, DOOM 2, they should just recreate doom 1 in a new engine but use Brutal Doom as a template…

I just want to play a new DOOM that actually feels like DOOM.

This trailer makes the game look awesome though, not too fussed on the story but the little gameplay segments look alright.

Bit worried though, they showed off some gameplay not long ago and it looked boring as hell.

Wow sounds like a company is going to release a “beta” of a game, ie stress test etc…why is that so fucking hard to believe?? Sounds like the company actually making the game would know more that you and make demo decisions without consulting you first…sorry…wanker!!
