EVE: Valkyrie to be an exclusive Oculus Rift launch title

EVE: Valkyrie, CCP's dogfighter set in the EVE Online universe, is to be co-published by Oculus Rift and serve as one of the VR headset's launch titles.

Oculus Rift announced the partnership on its blog, confirming the sim will launch alongside the consumer version of the headset and be exclusive to the technology.

Describing EVE: Valkyrie as "one of the first AAA games designed exclusively for the Rift", Oculus Rift said it's "hands-down one of our favourite Rift games", and highlighted the awards and accolades it received at E3 2013 and CES 2014.

“We strongly believe the best VR experiences are going to be the ones built from the ground up for VR, and we’ve kept that in mind whilst developing Valkyrie," CCP's Robert Clarke and Sigurður Gunnarsson said in a statement.

"We wanted people to really feel like they were there – to sense the vastness of space, feel the confined area of the cockpit and get that adrenaline rush as you see an exploding fighter whizz past your head."

Oculus Rift's co-publishing endeavour is led by former EA executive David DeMartini, and is actively seeking companies to partner with. The company is also starting to work on internally-developed games, with the assistance of legendary id programmer John Carmack, who left the developer he helped when parent company Zenimax showed little interest in VR tech.
