SimCity to finally get offline mode in free update

Monday, 13th January 2014 14:34 GMT By Sherif Saed

SimCity’s most asked for feature by the community is the ability to play offline, EA’s usual response was that the simulation is not an offline game. All of this is going to change however since the game will be getting an offline mode.

In a new blog post developer Maxis detailted the initiative, “Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you any time, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection.

“In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world….Bringing the game Offline means big things for our wonderful community of Modders. They can now make modifications to the game and its components without compromising the integrity of the Online game.”

Offline mode cropped up last year in an EA survey, following the game’s less than stellar launch. What originally started as a user ‘hack’ from some modders, the mode was said to be looked into by the developer and it looks like it will finally come to fruition.

Update 10 is not yet dated, however the developer promised to release more information very soon.

Do think it’s too little, too late? Let us know below.

Thanks, GAF

Almost waited long enough for the game to be irrelevant, if it ever was relevant.

No one cares anymore because it is a shitty game.

It’s about 10 months too late.

And it isn’t coming with a proper map size nor god mode, so there’s still no reason to bother with it.

Also: didn’t they say that offline mode was impossible due to yada yada bullshit?

They said my Computer can’t handle the Game, so the Servers have to do some Math and stuff. So why can my Computer now handle the Game? Explain it to me Maxis.

    Oh wait, wrong franchise.

Not going to apologise for LYING first? Good to see your so humble.

But only the power of the cloud has the processing power to handle the ammount of simulation ncessary to run Sim City! So how is that possible? ;P

But they designed the game around the cloud. It was in its DNA. How can they abandon it? Thankfully, at least the super small city size, stupid city behavior and other “features” are still in place.

Yeah wasn’t the term “Glass Box” or something, and the city simulation could only run on “Glass Box” with the power of the “cloud”?

I’m guessing Microsoft helped them to unplug from the cloud they know a lot about that kind of stuff

Poor Maxis… These guys deserved better and EA just made them shit this DRM all over their game.

It’s going to take LONG before they recover from the PR disaster and lost trust this caused.

    Fuck you EA.
