Minecraft in development for Wii U – rumour

Tuesday, 24 December 2013 08:49 GMT By Dave Cook

Minecraft is already a voxel pandemic, but rumblings from the cube underworld suggest that a Wii U edition is currently in the works.

Nintendo Enthusiast claims its sources have confirmed the game’s development, and claims that the ‘developer’ – most likely Dundee’s 4J Studios – is in possession of Wii U dev kits now.

The project is said to be in development alongside PS4 and Xbox One editions, and that all three will launch summer, 2014. On Nintendo’s format, the Wii U GamePad is said to be a big focus.

Treat his as rumour for now.

    System seller? Oh wait no, it can’t be. Its a third party game. In addition to the fact this will be available to purchase on other platforms by that time.

    Woah, easy there Dragon. I don’t think anyone asked for you to step in. Easy poppet, I’m talking to LB – you don’t need to leap to his defence every time someone decides to call him out.

    More over, isn’t there some other thread you could disrupt with other players as like minded as yourself? Maybe an Xbox or PlayStation thread? Or do you just lurk in the Nintendo ones waiting for comments?

    Back to who I’m actually interested in talking to ; LB, your comments – in my opinion, seem to have an air of rationality to them but are usually packaged in an onimious negative slant. Let’s face facts, the way you’ve worded your comment about it being out on other platforms by then and being a ’3rd party title’ denotes a slightly defeatist look at software for the machine.

    It’ll sell regardless of it being on other formats by then, it’s a cheap game to buy into that I’m sure kids and adults can enjoy (apparently Nintendo is for kids anyway) I don’t think anyone assumes ‘system seller’ status, it’s only going to help though, can we agree on that?

    That would be great if it wasn’t for hardware limitation of Wii U (Like the Xbox 360 version).

    @9
    Very ironic coming from an known Xbox fanboy, you already been called out of that so many times. Chalking up downgrades in Xbox One games to TV settings. No? How about no one looks at crowds in Forza? But looks at the clouds in another racing game. Yeah the Woe similarities are obvious now.

    And about that cloud thing, it wasn’t about just the clouds. I said EVERYTHING looked like a huge copy paste, and EVEN the clouds were identical (GT6 VS GT5). This is a completely true statement and you only had to look at my video i posted to see that.

    And yes, nobody plays a racer and stops to look at crowds. When you race past them, you can’t even make them out (it’s a blur effect).

    @27 I think it would be a good fit, but I don’t think it will benefit the platform or Mojang a great deal. Everyone who wants to be playing Minecraft already is. And that includes on touch-screen devices with lower cost-of-entry access than (a)ny console version of Minecraft will offer.

    Merry Christmas.

    I actually defended you when that guy was making those accounts and harassing you… I see that was a waste of time since you are in fact, a “douche”.

    I’m all for opinions, but your opinion has already been stated on multiple other WiiU articles.. why do you still even bother? Its clear your just trying to make fun of the WiiU fans. (I don’t own one)

    I don’t like games MOBA games… so I don’t go on there articles saying how crappy I think they are even though that’s my opinion, I have learned to keep thoughts in my head without them spilling out onto the internet, especially when its clear my voice doesn’t want to be heard, but in this case, yours.

    #32 1 year ago
  33. Legendaryboss

    @32
    My opinion is stated because i want to state it, i don’t see the need to justify that. You and others defended me about that alt account mess, your point? I wasn’t present until that sorted itself out. You regret it? Fine. I won’t silence my thoughts because others don’t want to hear it, there are plenty of scenarios this happens in.

    If i wanted to make fun of Wii U owners i would but i haven’t. All that was stated was the obvious specifically to do with the status of the game, third party and availability. This was based on how much it sold on various platforms. What happened was that got misinterpreted into baiting and making fun of Wii U owners. All i did was think about how the game would do on Wii U, realise its status and availability.

    At no point did I waltz in and say “Wii U owners are fools, Wii U is a waste of time, Wii U is doomed, Ninty are doomed”. I didn’t say that. I never mentioned Wii U fans.

    @34
    Knowing the popularity of Minecraft i wondered if it would it help sell Wii Us i.e. system selling to an effect. This was a rhetorical question. Then i added doubt because its a third party title also available on many other platforms.

    My first comment was simply a made up judgement on the performance of the Wii U version, adding in other factors to think if it would have some sort of impact.

    Thats all.

    @35
    See above. So where did making fun of Wii U fans come from? Cause i never mentioned it. It wasn’t sarcasm either.

    @36 I reckon the game could be quite a fit for the machine and it would do well if the Gamepad changes the experience found on other machines.

    I think for all the retail stumbling the Wii U has been doing in its first year, it’s been building good relations with eShop developers behind the scenes and I really think it’s in for some brilliant releases next year, maybe not on disc but digital games are starting to come together.

    #41 1 year ago
  42. Joe Musashi

    As I mentioned in #28, this is a good fit. But this rumour, if true, is a token gesture. These are crumbs. Crumbs will not feed a starving man. Exaggerating this significance – or (not so) slyly insinuating that those who won’t exaggerate likewise are holding some sort of grudge is remarkably childish.

    @41 That may be true. Though, I would be interested in purchasing some of Nintendo’s digital offerings – including those produced through their partnerships with indie developers. But Nintendo’s truly awful policy to regard the box rather than the consumer as the purchaser of digital content guarantees I will not do so. Feedback from many gamers shows that I am far from alone in this view.

    Which, sadly, means that they have engineered a barrier between my wallet and their content. A shame, as having worked hard to provide compelling content only to sell it in such a needlessly obstructive and draconian manner means that the returns on such partnerships is being stifled by Nintendo’s digital policies.

    As Vlambeer’s recent remarks show, there a numerous platforms out there for indie developers to sell their work through. If one platform instates policies that directly impede the returns a developer is likely to gain, that developer may well choose to go elsewhere.

    True enough! But for people who can’t/won’t PC, until the Steam Machines roll out, even something is better than nothing. Minecraft is a pretty fun console experience, and I’m glad that everyone who owns some sort of device can get it in some form or another.

    It’s just a shame about the lack of mods, that’s the biggest loss on all those closed platforms, because there are some truly amazing Minecraft mods that I just wouldn’t play it without. Same for Starbound.

    Grow up, people. I hate it when what should be a self-ware and self-determining creature is reduced to a zombie because of brand marketing.

    Xboooox, Soooawny, Nviiiidya, Ayteeiiiii…

    Or whatever else. Yahtzee said it best — platforms are things we play games on, and they should be decided on by what features they offer us, the consumers rather than political rallies that almost reek of brainwashing.

    Just. Stop.

    Take a good look at yourselves. Be ashamed. And… Just. Stop.

    Edit: And before anyone jumps in? Yeah, I have a preference. I prefer open platforms, because I like the features they offer. But that means that I like all manners of Android phone produced by Google, Samsung, HTC, and many others, I like ATi and Nvidia equally, and I really don’t give a shit about brand.

    I wish people could be more like me, frankly.

    “I wish people could be more like me, frankly.”

    A great deal of your posts can be summed up by that one sentence.

    But, at least, you’re honest about your narcissism.

    It would help if you had any idea of what went on in this thread, not hide your condescension, misconceptions (Okay a common issue throughout this thread, but not to your level) through tedious essays that set out to stroke your ego.

    Point: If people don’t want me to be “patronising” or display some sort of defensive behaviour, then don’t attack my post based on a hunch or problems with negativity and not expect such a response.

    Minecraft Wii U denied by Notch, “not aware of any plans” but a “Wii U version would make sense.” Minecraft 3DS Edition?

    Good call about Mods. Heck, if it wasn’t for mods, I wouldn’t be interested in many major releases like Skyrim. Come to think of it, why the HELL is modding only limited to PC games?

    Seriously, mods are a wonderful thing that give additional life to many titles. Gaming as a whole would be a much better place if people could mod Last of Us, GTA5, Mario 3D World, Pokemon and stuff like that. If platform holder’s weren’t such control freaks, I believe that even their sales would increase by opening up a bit.
