Mass Effect 4 already in a playable state

Wednesday, 18th December 2013 23:11 GMT By Brenna Hillier

The next Mass Effect game, which we’re tentatively calling Mass Effect 4, is far enough along to be playable.

BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn has been playing the next Mass Effect, according to a comment on Twitter.

“Great time playing the next Mass Effect game in Montreal,” he said, showing an off-screen photo of the BioWare logo.

“Ambitious. Beautiful. Fresh but recognizable. And fun.”

The next Mass Effect game is in development at BioWare Montreal, a support team founded in 2009 now working on its first lead studio project. Although the design document is complete, we’ve heard very little about it.

We know it won’t star Shepard, or even “Shepard 2″, and that it’ll run on Frostbite 2, sharing some mechanics with Dragon Age: Inquisition. This reference may suggest that Mass Effect 4 is a more traditional RPG than the shooter-driven original trilogy, which would explain why BioWare keeps referring to it as a “new thing” for the series.

We don’t know if it is a prequel or sequel, but in either case BioWare has promised to be respectful of earlier games.

Don’t expect to hear much about the new Mass Effect until after Dragon Age: Inquisition ships in the third quarter of 2014.

Thanks, GameInformer.

Just saw this tweet and now I just want more info… knowing that it probably won’t come until E3 makes me sad, but excited!

So what you’re saying is, Mass Effect 4 is further along in development than Battlefield 4?

Fine, now i need to wait… playing Mass Effect again and again. This addiction never ends. And Brenna, the new title will use Frostbite 3, not 2.

I wonder if the DLC is playable yet, probably.

yea but its EA….so it will be rushed and filled with game breaking bugs and problems.

Knowing them, they are planning the DLC before the actual game.

    But i wish it would be a Space-Sim game……

But its EA, so i wont buy it…….

    @3 Fucking gold mate!

Ontopic: As much as I love the series and consider it to be one of the best trilogies of all time, I stopped buying anything even remotely related to EA years ago.

Considering it’s a new team, I really expect this to be the first of many poor quality cash-ins by EA/Bioware.
Which makes me a little sick.

… nice shot of the SR-2, such nostalgia…
