GTA 5 Xbox 360 store pre-orders get free 1,600 Microsoft Points

Wednesday, 28th August 2013 09:19 GMT By Dave Cook

Grand Theft Auto 5 pre-orders made via the Microsoft Store appear to be coming with a voucher good for 1,600 Microsoft Points.

You can find the store entry here, and you’ll see the Microsoft Points incentive on the right of the page. 1,600 Microsoft Points is worth roughly $20.

A footnote on the page states that the offer is running until September 16 and that the voucher code will be sent to the user’s email address within ten days of GTA 5 launching on September 17.

We know that Microsoft Points have now been culled on the Xbox Marketplace, but there are bound to be surplus voucher codes out there in the wild.

What do you make of the deal?

since you’re going to receive it by email, this has nothing to do with physical voucher codes to be “dealt with”. also, destroying a piece of cardboard surely costs less than 20€ so we can probably assume this is not done to contain costs. moreover, physical vouchers around the world have no value attached to them, since they have to be activated at the sale (just like cell phone credit) – pretty sure the store hasn’t paid for them before selling, not in full, in any case.
not sure why they’re choosing to give away points instead of money, but it’s a very good deal overall.

@1 It’s the fact they’re calling them Microsoft Points, a currency which is now defunct. That’s what makes me wonder if there’s a surplus of codes for the old currency.

Thats a gooood deal. I hope Sony does this too. I will pre order immediately if they do…but yeah its unlikely since Microsoft seem to have a surplus of codes which can be used productively now. That makes me wonder though. What will Microsoft gain from this besides more xbox gtav versions sold?

Great deal, but I got my CE on preorder for months now at another story, so yeah.
