Battlefield 4 runs at 60fps on next-gen consoles

Thursday, 22nd August 2013 09:06 GMT By Dave Owen

It’s a good day to be a huge explosion or collapsing wind turbine, as its been confirmed that Battlefield 4 will run at 60fps on next-gen consoles.

The improved frame rate will make a significant difference to Battlefield 4, as its multiplayer maps now have an enormous reliance on dynamic events that dramatically alter the landscape and are generally spectacular. These include a giant warship crashing into a tropical island during a raging storm.

There are smaller dynamic options too, such as blockading a road to prevent access from vehicles, or shutting enemies inside a metal container with only a live grenade for company.

Battlefield 4 is out, at 60fps, on PS4 and Xbox One at launch. It’ll also be available on PS3 and Xbox 360, though presumably at a lower frame rate. And, of course, it’ll look fantastic on PC too.

Thanks, Game Informer.

It should be 1080p, but I dont see it mentioned in the article so not sure. They said that the FPS number was the priority… who knows.

The player count on next gen is also 64 players too right?

Where’s Legendaryboss when you need him? ^_^ This whole thing was in contest on VG247 a while ago. I think that 1080p was previously confirmed for next -gen consoles and it was just the fps that was in question?

Maybe its going to be sub 1080p ?

clearly they don’t want to talk about resolution. so it is not 1080p if it was they hyped it already. i guess it is 720 or a little more maybe or little less or subHD ,lol.

I don’t recall arguing about FPS/Resolution: what exactly do you mean?

Battlefield 4 is 1080p running at 60 FPS on next gen consoles and of course PC.

says who ? they showed it in MS confrense and they said it is a 60fps uncut (it wans’t showed on X1 console-devkit ? debug ?). nothing more. 1week after that they said they targeted 60fps on consoles. nothing about resolution maybe you have another source and please share your source.

actual source is “battlefieldlog” and it is an unofficial source.

nothing confirmed or said about resolution, DICE Said: next-gen is “getting the full Battlefield experience” and this does not mean native 1080p or anything related to resolution , but sites copy it and then copy it again and again and you post an unofficial news from an unofficial site that copied from another unofficial source.

“getting the full Battlefield experience” means 64player and huge maps. not graphics not resolution.

    Then i can’t find anything.

more reliable source, actually original source they copied from:

    and nothing about 1080p.

Patrick Bach Battlefield executive producer said:

“We had to decide, yes, we will do this in 60fps. Everything else is secondary”

@13 if you cared to read both articles you figured out that the actual source which is official is Rajat Taneja EA CTO
and his words are pretty clear

EA CTO is not making BF4 but DICE Does. and Taneja didn’t said anything about BF4, he/she said about next-gen platforms and EA and how they liked and can build games with 1080p 60fps. didn’t mentioned BF4 or any specific games.

DICE has told Eurogamer: “full Battlefield experience” not rajat #@^$

@10 No arguments, I just remember there was a post a while ago here where the BF4 1080p issue came up and you posted some links to support ^_^

This is pretty good news, I wonder what (if anything) has been comprimised when comparing it to a high end PC running BF4 at 1080p?

I suppose the PC will crank the fps up to 100+, but I wonder about textures etc…?

Makes me laugh when people keep repeating “It’s is 1080p60 on next-gen!!!!!!!!!” like it’s announced fact :D

All EA / DICE has said is that next-gen gets 60 FPS and 64 + 2 players. Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been said about resolution. Personally I’m very surprised if they pull off 1080p60 in Bf 4 because we are talking about first generation of next-gen games.

@20 I would be surprised too.

60 fps and 720p (sub-par-hd ^^) would be fine for me. But I hope they can finally give us the option to change the field of view for next-gen-console-shooters. In BF3 for PS3 I think it’s a bit too low (about 70?). A slider from 70 to 90 would be great..

I mostly play in 1440p on PC, but I am torn on what version to buy. Battlefield 4 is a game i’ll wait on to see comparison videos and how it runs on PC’s.

I’m buying a PS4 for games like Knack and Killzone, games I cannot get on PC anyways. I’d love to know the “Actual resolution” as the Xbox 360 can scale to 1080 and say all games run at 1080, when actual resolution is much lower.

Battlefield 4 on Xbox one and ps4 runs sub 1080p in the consoles frame buffer and then upscales it to 1080p. If it was 1080p native in the xbo or ps4s frame buffer it wouldn’t run at 60 fps. The PC version will run better then 60 fps at 1080p native on my pc and 120 hz lcd.
