UK charts: Minecraft Xbox 360 takes top, Pikmin in at second

Monday, 29th July 2013 09:34 GMT By Dave Cook

Minecraft Xbox 360′s retail box has hit top of the UK charts this week after a fair few weeks battling all-comers in the top five. New entry Pikmin 3 has debuted at second, and it’s the first Wii U title to make such a dent in the UK chart since the console launched here in December.

It’s little wonder too, because as you can see from our review score round-up, Pikmin 3 has scored very well among the gaming press.

I also wrote my own opinion of the game and captured some gameplay footage while I played it. Check it out here.

After 6 weeks, The Last of Us finally gets knocked off. Not that it’s a good thing, Minecraft out of all games. I hate Notch.

Pikmin at #2 is just the proof that the WiiU needs games

@1 Hating Notch here as well ;)

Can I ask why you two hate notch?

Is it because he has made a fortune out of Minecraft?

Is it because he seems to have the industries best interest’s at heart?

Is it because he champions the indie scene and new ideas?

Is it because he wears a hat?

Did he bully you at school?, kill your puppy? shit in your cornflakes?

Hate is a really strong word…grow the fuck up.

Yeah, exclusive content always sells Nintendo’s hardware and software. When the games start flooding in, you’ll see those Wii U sales shoot right up.

Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi U in the top 20 is good. Wait till the real heavy hitters drop like Sonic Lost World, Zelda WW HD, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U, The Wonderful 101, and more.

6 weeks at the top, well done to The Last of Us. :)

Also happy to see Pikmin doing well. It was funny to laugh at the Wii U disaster at first, but it’s getting kinda sad ;P They just need more first party titles.

@3 Considering they might have reasons for their opinion, and then you just decided to not even take that into account, I think its you who needs to “grow the fuck up”. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, opinions don’t have to match yours.

On the article: Has anyone here played Pikmin 3, I’m kinda interested in it. Shame its only in second.

    @6 Good Point.

Just be nice if people qualified them but then the Internet wouldn’t be the same I suppose.

@3 Yeah, “hate” is exaggerated, you’re right, excuse me, but English is not my native language ;)

let’s say that I “don’t like him” because he now thinks that he is in charge of the whole “indie” world.

He is not the genius he thinks he is, if he was he would’ve shipped a lot more successful games…

@8 Ok I may have gone over the top too.

Monday morning and all that ;)

“Sonic Lost World, Zelda WW HD, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U, The Wonderful 101″

Of those SM3DW and Wii Fit U are the heavy hitters, Zelda possibly in the absence of a new WiiU Zelda and considering it was a GC release some may have missed the first time round. Sonic and The Wonderful 101 look like they will be great games, but I don’t think either is a heavy hitter.

NB: This chart is including budget release (hence Minecraft’s inclusion). In the full price chart Pikmin is top and Luigi is 8th.

    @9 can I say that

“I do HATE Mondays too”? ;)

@6 Playing and enjoying Pikmin 3 at the moment, although I admit I am not very good at it – pretty sure I am 2 days behind already lol

Still, very much enjoying it, I have been testing out OBS streaming with it over at twitch if you want to see a couple of days in action:

Minecraft wasn’t predominately created by Notch. It was predominately created by Jeb. Yet, he gets all the accolades and is on his way to earning quarter of a billion with Minecraft.

He also parades the fact that he gave $3 million to his employees. Why do you have to make that public?

    #14 1 year ago
  15. Sadismek

@14 Wrong. Minecraft was “created” by Notch, Jeb just took the wheel and started to shit all over it. If you want to talk about who contributed the most to it’s rise as an amazingly popular game, the answer to that is the map-makers, modding community and some YouTubers who took notice of it’s potential and got reasonably rich in the process as well (BlueXephos comes in mind, there are others). Minecraft was the prime example in modern indie scene of how powerful word-of-mouth is.

  18. Cobra951

@8, so in other words, you hate him because he is very successful. The PC version of MC has sold over 11 million copies. The 360 version, at the top of the list above, has sold over 7 million. True, the 360 version is published by Microsoft itself, so it can hardly be called “indie”. But the reason that deal happened is the runaway success of the game elsewhere. Even MS knows a good thing when it’s that obvious.

Pikmin 3 will probably be a repeat of how it did in Japan and drop off quickly next week.

It pretty much dropped like a stone over there, with the Wii U back to being outsold by the Vita after the momentary bump the game gave it.

That’s what you’ll see whenever any of these first party Nintendo titles come out. They’ll be at the top of the chart for a week or two and then drop back down. It’s like constantly giving little shocks to someone who is dying. It’ll keep the heart going, barely, but it won’t make him well.

@19 “It pretty much dropped like a stone over there, with the Wii U back to being outsold by the Vita after the momentary bump the game gave it.”

That’s awful depressing my friend, but a valuable factoid nonetheless ^_^

@18 Apparently you have to hate someone if they make a successful game that you dislike. Because that’s totally not way beyond an extreme approach…

I don’t care much for Minecraft, or the business management of Mojang, but you know what people usually do about things they don’t care about? They don’t think about them.

What’s the point in investing “hate” into something you don’t like? Seems like a waste of time and energy.

@20 – In fairness, it did still sell a little bit more than the PS3 last week, but really, is outselling a seven year old system that has a successor on the way in a few months really an accomplishment anymore?
