Incognita beta expected within the next 1-2 months, says Klei

Incognita, Klei Entertainment’s turn-based tactical espionage game will go into beta sometimes within the next 1-2 months.

In a stream hosted on Twitch, designers James Lantz and Jason Dreger showed off one of the procedurally generated stages where a team of three was tasked with stealing items from heavily secure locations around the globe.

According to the developers, the current build can have up to six members and while not all are needed to remain alive for the level to be completed, once they are dead they stay that way. Players will hack into and secure security cameras in order to find out where enemies are and will need to “be smart about it” or your team will die – permanently.

The game contains an alarm, which will go off once it shots level 20 – then you need to be prepared for an “elite squad of Enforcers” to come after you.

Klei previously described the game as “10% of XCOM and 90% putting your guys in the right places and holding position.”

Incognita is slated for release on PC in 2014, with Mac and Linux dates to be determined.

Thanks, Shack.

I’m really excited about this. Klei games are always interesting.

While I only really loved Mark of the Ninja and couldn’t stand Don’t Starve, I still saw potential in the latter (probably would’ve finished it with multiple characters if it wasn’t for that permadeath mechanic. I’m just not big on having things that I achieved over hours taken away from me).
And maybe one of these days, I’ll catch up on Shank and Shank 2. What little I played of the first one seemed quite decent.

Then you won’t like this game as it is perma death as well. If a team member dies, they’re dead much like Xcom.
