Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has sold 7 million units, according to a tweet from 4J Studios. The console version of the PC juggernaut, which passed the 11 million mark recently, had hit 6 million sales at the end of March, so that’s another 1 million in three months time. As of May, the Minecraft Pocket Edition had topped 10 million in sales. At this rate, just imagine the massive numbers Mojang will be declaring come Minecon in November.

That is a lot of units. Wow, I really didn’t realize how popular this game actually is.

I’m back into it after Title Update 11 (roughly equivalent to PC Release 1.2-ish). Time just disappears into this pixelated sinkhole, if I let it.

I just don’t understand this game. It reminds of how little girls play house. I get the lego style freedom to build…but there is no actual game to be played. So, for me, it is neat for a while, but it gets old fast as I search for a point to playing.

@3: The sandbox is the game. I know others don’t get that, including a lot of developers who keep putting out story-heavy, gameplay-light titles. MC is purely what you make of it. The story is the one you create. Yeah, there are monsters, and The End and a dragon and all that, but these are slight distractions, or better yet, sources for raw materials. I like to search, find, and do. MC is the best thing yet for such endeavors in a virtual world.
