The Last Guardian: Sony retracts “on hiatus” comment

Tuesday, 11th June 2013 18:28 GMT By Staff

SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has said that it’s “misleading” to describe The Last Guardian as “on hiatus”, as it’s still in active development.

Responding to concern over a comment from SCEA boss Jack Tretton, Yoshida said the Team Ico adventure is still in the works.

“That hiatus term – I’m not a native English-speaking person – but that’s misleading,” Yoshida told Kotaku.

“The game is in active development. [Lead designer Fumito] Ueda-san shared updates a few months ago. Nothing has changed. My answer is, ‘Yes, the game is in active development.’ It’s not hiatus at all. But we are not ready to reintroduce it. When we are ready, we will do that. Please wait.”

Original Story:

SCEA boss Jack Tretton has told GTTV that The Last Guardian is “on hiatus”. However, just because it is on “hiatus” doesn’t mean it’s canned.

“I think the cool thing about our worldwide development studios is we have so many projects out there from so many great teams,” Tretton told GTTV (via TSA). “Projects never ultimately go away, so The Last Guardian has certainly not gone away, but it’s on hiatus right now.”

The Last Guardian announced back in 2009 for PS3 and many rumblings on the net seem to think it has moved over to PS4.

It sounds like it to us, but we’re not soothsayers.

P.s. This what happens when you let artists run projects. They needed a hard nut with a big stick stood over them.

After so many ages in development. I wonder what is going on with it. Unless the development has been halted and resumed several times, I don’t think a game (regardless of how stunning and unique)can take so long.
Development hells are the worst sign for a game. GT5 suffered the same dev cycle. While GT5 was being developed, Forza became something big ! The manager guy on Gtplanet was damn excited for Forza 5 in an article.

I hate to say that, but I think it is joining Agent. Even if it comes out, expectations are so high that it will fall short.
They should learn from Naughty Dog. One masterpiece every two years.

Certainly it is coming to PS4, although it might have the same, beg your pardon, Duke Nukem Forever effect. Everyone gets hyped and then hate the game because it isn’t what they “asked for”.

I’d really like to know what are the problems with this game. Why is it so damn hard to finish it?

    #33 2 years ago
  34. Belmont

Perhaps because they can’t make it work and run properly, perhaps some of the dev team are drug addicts, or perhaps because they started developing it slowly to get a guiness record for slow development.I don’t know. It is ridiculous !

I remember when I Was reading manga if any manga put in hiatus
It’s due to different reasons, like the author was sick or he need to take
a long break from the manga, but I really don’t (ever) remember one
Of them was canned after that.

So the using of the word hiatus from jack was spot on.

Now that the internet has collectively shit itself over the fact that the PS4 is 100 dollars cheaper than the Xbox, Sony announces that most of the games shown last night (except for the shitty David Cage gradeschool-written flaccid melodrama crying-simulations and first party sequels to “guys in t-shirts/car that drives pretty” games) are actually multiplatform releases and not actual exclusives, and that the camera and inevitable “Move 2″ will cost you at least a 100 dollars, AND that the PS4 will probably end up having locked used-game registrations if third-party developers ask Sony to!

Surprise! It’s the same corporate bullshit it’s always been!

Oh, and you know that sequel to easily the most beloved Sony original title? CANCELLED!

    Happy E3!

@38 I’m actually pretty pleased with this E3 overall, though I am not impressed with the PS4 or the X-Box One in all honesty. All of the genuinely great looking games are multiplatform. And the exclusives I’m actually into seem to be Nintendo-bound.

I just look forward to the PC benefiting from a console generation that isn’t anemic in the tech department.

come on guys the way I look at it is that the game is coming out. if they weren’t actively working on it or have stopped then they would say so. it only hurts them to tease people for long periods just to say they cancelled it. at this point they want the game to ready for shipment before they come out and show it. that is what shu said that they broke promises before so the next time they show will be when its ready. it will come out when its ready so until then enjoy other games.
