Command & Conquer to "wash away the stain" of C&C 4

Victory Games doesn't think much of Command & Conquer 4, apparently, and wants to make up for it with the latest entry in the series.

"The first thing we said was, we need to kind of wash the stain of C&C 4 away," lead designer Samuel Bass said in a developer diary published on GameInformer.

"To do that, you really have to get back to your roots, back to what it was made your fans your fans in the first place."

According to other Victory staff members, these roots are "base building that doesn't feel like a chore; harvesting that doesn't require your full attention; and a focus on fast action and lots of viable strategies" as well as "upgrades that matter" and "player powers that feel visceral".

The team is clearly very inspired by Generals, which is fitting as the new game was originally announced as Generals 2, before it went free-to-play and was re-conceptualised as a platform rather than a single title.

Command & Conquer is a Frostbite-powered affair and looking quite pretty. Hit the link above to view the whole developer diary, or see Sam's video preview. Dave's played it and seemed pretty chuffed. You can sign up for the beta on the official site.
