Respawn Entertainment trademarks ‘Titan’

Tuesday, 16th April 2013 12:50 GMT By Dave Cook

Respawn Entertainment has filed a trademark for something called ‘Titan’. Drink your Lucozade because we’re about to go running on the rumour (tread)mill.

The trademark filing was registered on April 11 and can be found in full here.

Respawn’s filing pertains to “Video and computer game programs, video game discs, video game software, suggesting that ‘Titan’ is a working title, or perhaps even the final name. We won’t be able to tell until publisher EA states otherwise.

We recently heard that Respawn Entertainment will be at E3 2013 in some capacity, and it is presumed the studio’s first project will be revealed during publisher EA’s pre-event conference.

Studio founder Vince Zampella also said that he hoped to announce the game ‘soon’, but that was in June last year. It may have been ages ago, but that hasn’t stopped Respawn teasing this mo-cap studio shot, and releasing this blurred image of the game.

Are you excited for the game’s reveal? What could it be? Let’s hear your theories below.

Thanks AGB.

@1 That’s just the project name for it. Pretty sured they are not gonna bother with any “battle” over the name because it will be changed.

^ Not true at all. Valve and Blizzard had issues with “DOTA2″ name for example.

    Blizzard lost in the end.

    Not true at all.
The dispute wasn’t about either of them using the name Dota in the working title, the dispute was that Blizzard thought it was wrong of Valve to claim to make a sequel to a mod they had nothing to do with, nor the original creator of the mod. In essence, Blizzard wanted nobody to be able to trademark the mod, but Valve ignoring the legacy of the original mod eventually got away with being as unoriginal as they (almost) always are.

    ^ FAIL.

“Blizzard argued that Valve “has never used the mark DOTA in connection with any product or service that currently is available to the public” and that “by attempting to register the mark DOTA, Valve seeks to appropriate the more than seven years of goodwill that Blizzard has developed”, taking for itself “a name that has come to signify the product of years of time and energy expended by Blizzard and by fans of Warcraft III”.

“Valve has no right to the registration it seeks,” Blizzard’s legal team stated.” (c) Blizzard

It’s EA’s MMOFPS to go up against Acti’s MMOFPS. Destiny v Titan.

I don’t see the logic in hiring some of the best shooter devs out there to make an MMO.

EA can’t afford another one after SWTOR. It’s been three years of financial agony for them.

^ Well maybe not a true MMO. But I guarantee it’ll be some big, sci-fi epic, with persistent online social bullshit, or however they want to spin it.

As other people are saying, holy shit this E3 can surely not fail to impress.

I think E3′s before it have been guessing games but I this time round I think we can guarantee finally a event full of big reveals and kick ass titles making an appearance.
