Maxis working on fix for SimCity traffic congestion and pathfinding problems

Maxis is looking into a way of fixing traffic and pathfinding bugs that currently plague SimCity.

Lead gameplay scripter Guillaume Pierre discussed the problems in a recent blog post. Many players have complained about the behaviour of cars, delivery trucks and other vehicles which often take too long to reach their destination, or miss it entirely.

Pierre indicates EA is looking into a way of providing certain stops as “high priority”, ensuring they will be visited first. He also suggests improvements will be made to the game’s traffic system, which pushes all vehicles along the same path to a single destination, creating congestion.

“We’re looking into various ways to improve the situation so traffic will spread out better,” Pierre confirmed.

Eurogamer has a bunch of videos highlighting hilarious mishaps on the roads of SimCity, but I’ll just leave you with this:

It’s sad when you release a game you never tested for more than 3 hours :/

It kinda blows my mind that the game can be so obviously glitchy without some reviewers noticing.

If you look at the most positive reviews, there’s no mention of this stuff.

It may not be gamebreaking, but shit, if you consider a game a full ten, maybe you’d have more credibility if you could kinda recognize those things too.

I only played it for a few hours, but it was pretty obvious.
