Rumour – PS4, 720 launch announcements “near GDC in late March”

Another day, another prediction concerning the next-gen console launch announcements. This time it’s print publication Game Informer, which believes we’ll see “special Apple-style press conferences” held by Sony and Microsoft around GDC in March.

Videogamer has plundered the pages of US publication Game Informer for details of when the magazine believes we can expect next-gen console announcements.

“We hear that both Sony and Microsoft are targeting special Apple-style press conferences to unveil their platforms near the Game Developers Conference in late March,” the magazine is said to report in its February 2013 issue.

“E3 in June may be the industry’s biggest event, but both companies want to give their systems their own limelight.”

This falls broadly in-line with the prediction made by Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, who yesterday suggested in an investor email that, “E3 2013 will be the most important game conference since Y2K,” and that “we continue to expect both Sony and Microsoft to host dedicated events before E3 to announce their new platforms.”

The analyst also suggested that the next-gen consoles could cost around $400 upon release.

Thanks Dragon246, for the GI tip.

Valve certainly can,but I’m not sure about Apple. I think it is no longer the company it was back in time of iPhone 4 or iPad 2.
A March announcement is really great but I’m afraid it might hit TLOU and Beyond quite hard.

Sony has made a lot of important announcements during GDC over the years so, this makes sense for them. I’m not so sure about MS though.

Valve-Box will kill….nothing. PC gamers that buy high-end pcs ONLY for games will gravitate towards it, but will console only players make the jump? Why would they?

Apple might kill the DS family, but come on…come on.

thesixthaxis is pushing the rumor away, saying that it won’t happen. But if Gameinformer is backing the rumor it may well be true.
