Black Ops 2: top Xbox 360 player resets stats to escape abuse, DDOS attacks
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′s top-ranked Xbox 360 player “Retrominano” has reset his player stats after suffering a torrent of abuse form other players online, and constant DDOS attacks that prevented him from playing anywhere up to ten mintues at a time.
MP1st reports that Retrominano suffered the attacks from somewhere in the US, and that he issued an Xbox Live message to explain the issue:

He then took to Reddit to discuss his woes in greater detail, and stated that he had reset his stats back to level one, just to escape the constant attacks. he even took a photo to prove the reset:

What do you make of the above? Should tighter control be in place against these kind of attacks – not just for top-ranked players – but across the board? Let us know below.

Well, at least he didn’t have his account jacked. I’m pretty sure someone tried it before these attacks came in.

Personally i think people should just educate themselves more on security. You can easily block most ddos attacks by just properly configuring your router. At the end of the day, you are using the internet, you are responsible for keeping yourself safe.

The CoD community continues to be one of the worst in existence on the internet.
@Talkar: A router configuration isn’t going to do shit against a proper DDoS. If it’s a script kiddy with access to a reasonable number of bots then there’s very little you can do about it short of buying considerably more powerful equipment… and even that’s only going to work up to a point.

^ Yeah, it was clearly the majority of CoD players who did this to him, right?

@3
You can still negate a lot of these attacks by using proper configurations.

Nice strawman G1gahurtz. The CoD community is one of the worst out there for many, many reasons… certainly not just this one.
Endless abuse certainly is one of those reasons though. I’ve seen friends of mine get abusive voice messages from multiple players not only for winning games, but for losing them too. It’s a very special thing.

I’m just pointing out that CoD has 40 million MAUs.
So if one in every hundred people is an idiot, you will obviously find more idiots playing CoD than on other, less popular, games.
The entire community, though?
An exaggeration, perhaps…

Resetting his score to 0 will not stop him from being DDOS’d. It would only work if the person(s) responsible are now satisfied with their trolling and decide to stop or move onto the next guy.
