Xbox Live subs extended in apology for Cloud Save issue

Xbox Live users affected by a Cloud Save outage over the holidays will receive a free month of Gold subscription as compensation for the inconvenience.

The free month will be automatically applied to everyone affected without action on the user's end, Xbox Live's Larry Hryb, otherwise known as Major Nelson, promised on his blog.

The problem struck in the last week of December, giving the error message 0x807b0198 when attempting to access saved games stored on LIve's cloud. The Operations team worked through the holiday period to restore service, with Xbox Live general manager Alex Garden thanking users for their patience.

"It took longer than we expected to get back to full performance as we needed to ensure the integrity of everyone’s game saves," he said.

"Whether you couldn’t access your game saves for a couple of hours or a couple of days, we sincerely apologize for the delay and inconvenience."

Garden noted that the team will perform "a thorough post mortem to help prevent this from happening again".

Thanks, GameInformer.
