Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition headhunted by Sony

Sony made a bid to secure a PlayStation Network release for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, Beamdog boss Trent Oster revealed.

“We were approached by Sony to bring the game to PSN,” Oster told Shack News.

“So I counter-proposed what I thought it would cost for us to do it right. For me, to make Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition a good experience on a console would require a very heavy redesign for the entire control and input scheme.”

Oster said he just wants the game to be great on all formats, and a great console conversion would require “a large scale effort”.

“Sony decided not to proceed. I believe they wanted to proceed with a quality product, but we just couldn’t make the numbers work,” he said.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition arrives on iPad, Mac and PC on November 28 having been delayed from an expected September launch. It’s an overhauled HD re-release of a classic BioWare title.

Now this is a gorgeous move by Sony.

Dust 514 and this is fantastic.

I will play Baldurs Gate:Ench edition on my PC but for the PS3 owners they should visit this fantastic old classic. I think Sony should try and help them.

For once Erthazus, I agree with you. Hope Sony tries working with them, and makes this happen.

@3 No, it is much closer to Dragon Age. Dragon Age was called the spiritual successor to the Baldur’s Gate series.

What on earth? This is the last thing I expected to hear about Baldur’s Gate. Also, I don’t think it’s suited for console play. Maybe Vita but that one has a really small screen for this type of game.
