Final Fantasy Versus 13: ‘Please wait a little longer’ says Wada

Friday, 31st August 2012 11:59 GMT By Dave Cook

Final Fantasy Versus 13 is still in development, Square-Enix head Yoichi Wada has reiterated, added that gamers must be patient. However, fresh 25th anniversary concept art suggests that the game may be dropping its ‘Final Fantasy 13′ moniker.

Spotted by Kotaku, the below art is included in a Final Fantasy 25th anniversary booklet issued at a recent event, showing Final Fantasy Versus 13 lead Noctis.

The text reads, “Please wait for his turn!”

Elsewhere, the actual name of the game is being called into question now, Square-Enix head took to the stage during the event and kept on referring to the game as simply ‘Versus’.

Wada asked fans to remain patient, “I cannot say any more than, ‘We are making Versus!’ Please wait a little longer.”

But with the incoming announcement of a new Final Fantasy 13 instalment, where does this leave Versus in the overall canon? We’ll have more as it happens.

Is there any chance that they might turn the game into FF 15 or something?

I would almost prefer to see an interview take place that questions just how Versus 13 has found itself bumped and bounced about through development and their release schedule and on small occasion ignored.

If they made an overarching strategy (this is the impression they presented), how did it become usurped? Even as touching as a hand-written note accompanying so well done a character illustration as that is. :) It’s arguably one of their highest profile non-releases – did efforts to rescue the mmo FFXIV play a part?

It should be called Final Fantasy Versus time instead.

Surely the big ‘What the actual physical manifestation of our lord god Fuck?’ moment here is the reveal that Versus might not be an FF13 game.

As 99.9% of an FF game is story+art based in a specific world/universe then how can a Nova Crystallis game suddenly not be a Nova Crystallis game? Surely that is total rewrite territory?

@5 Nah, the exact same thing happened to Final Fantasy Agito XIII, which became Type-0. Whilst the games are linked by some concepts, such as the fal’Cie and sharing of certain deities, they actually take place on different worlds.

I’m pretty sure it’ll just become Final Fantasy Versus. No problem, as long as it comes out, they can take their time.

Exactly, #8, which is precisely why I say it.

Toys can be enjoyed by both 12 year olds and adults, angsty dramas can hardly be enjoyed by adults. Unless they find entertainment in clumsy battles with 3d models. I can hardly see why this videogame warrants the wait, might as well just play any of the already released ones.

    Square Enix:

Wants to make a game better than FF7…

Never will make an HD update because of it.

WHY Square Enix? Why must you validate yourself with a game you clearly cannot make better than FF7. FFX and FFXII were good, but 13 and 13-2 were NOT good and it seems like you are going down hill.

At least Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls and Fallout are all good. :)

Well to be honest here you guys, it would be prudent of them to market as far, far, far away as possible from FF13.
We would all like to forget ff13 even exists… its just to bad Square seems keen on releasing boring sequel after sequel to what is arguably the worst ff in the franchise…
so yeah, keep it as “Versus!”

If its still a PS3 exclusive this will help carry PS3 to its 10 year life cycle along with power hits like GTAV,God of War Ascension, and The Last Guardian.
