Epic Games buys Gears of War: Judgment dev People Can Fly

Gears of War: Judgment developer People Can Fly has just been bought by Epic Games, further to this morning’s announcement that the studio has lost some key staff.

Epic’s acquisition of the Polish developer – which was also responsible for 2011 shooter Bulletstorm – was reportedly the catalyst for three key staff members quitting the studio.

The studio’s top brass Adrian Chmielarz was among those who left, taking to Twitter to reassure fans that Gears of Judgment won’t be affected by the departures, “Gears fans, you’re going to love Judgment. It’s in great hands. And don’t worry, you’ll hear about my plans soon enough.”

Speaking with Polygon, Epic’s Mark Rein stated, “We doubled down on People Can Fly. It was something we always hoped to do.”

2011 shooter not 2009. Didn’t Epic buy em a year earlier ?

@1 Just bought them today apparently , that’s what caused the three key staffers to bail.

I forgot to change that 2009 from my draft. Thanks for spotting ;)

Chmielarz and other 2 guys probably didn’t want to end up making sequels over and over again :P Good for them that they left. Maybe we’ll get proper Painkiller “spiritual sequel”.

@5 not in full. They owned part of them. Now they own the majority of shares.

Epic are getting big now. How many devs do they have now? 4 studios?

Maybe they’ll be push towards publishing in the future like Bethesda.

@4: We’re talking about people can fly here. The only games they produced prior to Gears is the Painkiller series. So i doubt they’d be sick of producing sequels.
