Borderlands 2 is “about 50-60% bigger” than original

Borderlands 2 is bigger and better than the first of Gearbox’s shooter RPGs, and here’s an arbitrary numerical quantification of that.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if it was about 50-60% bigger [than Borderlands 1],” Gearbox VP Steve Gibson said in the latest issue of Games Master, via CVG.

But that’s not all.

“It’s also so much denser. Heck, just the city of Sanctuary, something like that couldn’t exist in the first game. Our technology has evolved a lot to enable us to do that now,” he added.

This is at least the second time Gibson has sought to put numbers on just how large the sequel is; he estimates Borderlands 2′s campaign is 58 hours long.

Borderlands 2 arrives on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September.

That’s all well and good, so long as it retains the replayability of the first game. I want all the open-endedness and New Game+ (maybe even ++) intact. Throw in enough cool and varied loot to keep it interesting, and I could probably play this one for a couple hundred hours like I did the last.

This is a motivation for me to find employment at the moment, so I can get the cash to pay for it (outside of everything else in my life). At first I was skeptical of Borderlands 2, but the more I’ve seen of it in action, the more I’ve been thinking I gotta get this (plus, the trailer with the song “In The Jungle” in it made me cry in laughter, and my jaw drop in awe). Kudos Gearbox, can’t wait to play.

I just got back into playing the first as I’ve yet to complete. I find the world huge already, 50-60% bigger. I’m only level 29. Taken this long as I would always play co-op with the gf but shes more addicted to minecraft now so i play it alone.
Don’t forget thats 58hours on the disc, no doubt there will be DLC which will just make me wait for the complete edition.
