Kratos will be more likable in God of War: Ascension
Todd Papy, director on God of War: Ascension, has said Kratos will be more “likable” and “somewhat” relatable in the game, compared to previous outings.

Speaking with Game Informer, Papy said that while our Spartan hero will still be “somewhat ruthless,” there will be a “side to him that you could somewhat relate to.”
“And that was something I wanted to get across,” said Papy, adding that Kratos was a bit of an “asshole” in God of War 3.
“The whole idea behind the story is more, ‘how do you undo selling your soul to the devil?’ In essence, that is the question that we are answering in this story,” Papy continued.
“Where does Kratos pick up roughly six months to a year after he killed his wife and kid? What’s his mental state? It’s not a very pleasant one.”
God of War: Ascension is out in 2013.

It’s Papy. Again, running off to Algeria when my shift ends.

Did this guy just decide, the moment they made him director for this game, to just go out of his way to do everything the GOW fanbase doesn’t want?

“Kratos” and “Relatable”, two words I’ve never thought would work in unisen. Mianly just because for what Kratos has been, and that is essentially a power fantasy. He always had the element of tragedy that created an element of sympathy from gamers everywhere, but what kept em around was the fact that he was this ultra powerful bad ass that could kill living creatures twice the size of the willis tower in Chicago (that, and Ares tricking you, and Zeus betraying you). Though despite this, I believe Sony Santa Monica can make Kratos a little more relatable in Asenscion. Because if you go back and watch the E3 demo, and pay close attention, the changes I saw were more small and subtle than anything, but I believe could have big dividends come the time it releases.
@8, do you really mean the God of War fanbase as a whole, or just you? Because I’ve got no problem with any of the things that’ve been shown off for Ascension (though maybe a bit of gore overkill if anything).

@8 Exactly what I think. If this guy want to create a new character then he should work on another game. Kratos is now a well established character and he is an asshole.

Oh Jesus, they are going to put Justin Beaber Hair style on kratos bald head to make him more “likable”, well teenagers girls will approve this with two thumbs way up.

GoW has always been a nice video game for down to earth, materialistic people who enjoy tits, gore and drinking. And sex mini games. All while comfortably sitting on the couch, controlling everything with the modern tech.
And now you ‘ll be able to relate to the king of machos, the ultimate macho mesh. Art, without a doubt.
