SWTOR servers offline for emergency maintenance until later this evening
BioWare has announced the SWTOR servers, which it took down earlier this morning for emergency maintenance, should be back up by 7.00pm EST. The developer tool the game offline due to some areas of the game being “reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status,” and some areas were missing completely and character in these areas became unavailable. Servers were taken offline around 9.30am CST and the team is working to “rebuild assets for the live servers,” but warns it’s not a quick process – meaning the downtime could be extended. However, you’ll get a free day of game time out of it (thanks Talkar!) so that should console you a bit. Be sure to keep and eye on the official website for status updates.

Yeah this is really bad. But hey, we got 30 days of gametime for free yesterday, so what is one unexpected day of downtime? Too bad it is on a friday though…
EDIT:
They are giving out a free day of game time due to this unexpected maintenance. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=3918776#edit3918776

I can’t wait for this to sink, hopefully it’ll finally pull EA under and end the shitty ‘treat consumer like shit’ era.
Basically, we need another crash in the gaming industry.
and lolshock94 is a faggot, just in case he comments his usual shit.

@2 Too much stupid in that comment. So you want a game to fail that tons of people like me play for no good reason?
Anyway on topic nice of them to give a free day in compensation, not to mention the free month already to the 50s.

@2
It is fine if you don’t like the game but to want to see it fail? That is just evil. It would cause a lot of people to be fired!

Talented people who’d go on to form new small development houses and indie devs, doing crazily wonderful shit. See: Wasteland 2. And for those that like the genre, also see: Banner Saga.
You talk like the lack of a job would kill them, but in reality it would just free them to work on other things. And in my opinion – better things.

@5 You know if someone wants to go off and do something themselves they have every ability to.

It certainly looks like Friday 13th has bitten these guys right in the arse. And honestly, after having almost 20 hours of down time in 1 full day, the least they can do it give people back a days play.
@2 – There isnt any reason to be like that. Yes, I agree that EA really need to take a back seat and stop these guys pushing out unfinished work, which(as shown today) only comes back to haunt them.
But I guess the pressure is on with their investors. The problem is, that the MMO gaming world compare everything to the World of Turdcraft in terms of numbers, when other games can plod along nicely with a much smaller player base and return a profit.
I wanted to go back in since I have been given free time to play but of course that wont happen now until tomorrow probably. Could this game have been better – of course.
