Don't panic: GSC continuing work on S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2

GSC's confirmed that development is continuing on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 after the Christmas break, calming fan nerves the sequel was canned. However, a spokesperson for the firm has admitted that in order for development to proceed, funding is needed.

In a Facebook status posted on the game's official page, it said: "The Stalker team is extremely happy! Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays."

It comes as the future of the game and GSC as a whole was under threat near the end of last year, when it was reported the studio would be closed and that staff wouldn't be paid until February at least.

The fact the shooter hasn't been canned seems to suggest that there's a happy ending nearing after all, albeit cautious optimism should funding come through.

"We are still in the process of seeking funding to back up the project," a GSC spokesperson Oleg Yavorsky told Edge. "We are hopeful things turn out well eventually. The team really wants to see STALKER continue."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is planned for sometime later this year on PC, 360 and PS3.
