Tomb Raider film reboot to be an origin story, says producer
The producer on the upcoming Tomb Raider movie has said the film will focus on being an origin story, similar to the next Lara Croft game.

Graham King told ComingSoon.com that, while the first two movies starring Angelina Jolie “weren’t disasters,” the new film would take its lines from flicks like Casino Royale and Batman Begins.
“I find it interesting that the story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece,” said King.
“It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.”
The last movie based on Lady Croft was The Cradle of Life eight years ago.
The new movie is due in 2013, a year after Crystal Dynamics releases its reboot of the IP, in which we see a young Croft stranded on an island after being shipwrecked.
Thanks, IGN.

Casino Royale, as a good reboot, really. As a huge 007 fan I just despise CR as a James Bond film. It is good, but it is not a James Bond. Quantum of Solace was better, but it got over the top with the action and still missed a lot form the Bond world. With Bond 23 will see what will happen. Actually I blame the abysmal writing after Goldeneye(as with the Batman movies after the second one) that brought us that dreaded reboot, which for a reboot explain too little and have huge plotholes.
I really hate all of those reboots, films or games. They are just made for introducing new “fans” which don’t want to see sequels, because they think they will be lost in the lore or because they missed previous installments.
On other hand for weak films like Lara maybe they will be good, but we all know films based on films rarely deliver.

First things first. Casino Royale is THE best Bond movie made to date and along with Goldfinger, is the only one that can is beyond the B-Movie.
Second, enough with the goddamn “Origin Stories”. Can’t they see how this lame stuff is killing interest in general public (Myself included)? There is already a new Origin story for both Spider-Man and Superman coming out and after Nolan is done with Batman, he will get another Origins movie as well. This is why I love the new Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance so much. It may turn out to be a crappy movie but at least it’s not another origin story, even though it’s no following previous film. They have a new origin for GR, show it in the first 4-5 minutes as a flashback / intro and get on with the story.
