Modern Warfare 3 hits 90 on MetaCritic – all the scores

Following the big worldwide launch last night, reviews for Modern Warfare 3 have appeared online following the lifting of an embargo this morning, with Meta scores hitting 90. Catch the reaction below the break.

The Xbox 360 version has hit 90, while the PS3 version has reached 88. No score yet for the PC version due to a worrying lack of reviews.

Response so far seems to be between eights and nines, but the consensus seems to be that it is a still a very action-packed title.

All the scores so far are below. If you want us to add one, you know the drill:

Modern Warfare 3 is out now for 360, PS3 and PC.

@46 ”Why do you care if it sells or not?”
Well I maybe not caring because I know it will sell again which is shame.
Because I love cod and played since first one and having one of biggest IP like MOdern warfare and now final chapter in series to end like this ? Look at Mass Effect,Gears even Assassin creed brotherhood was adding lot of stuff after AC2 so really there is no excuse for this.

Aw, c’mon, you’re saying the all new mandatory teabag mode isn’t new?

@44, So did it add something new or not? Your contradicting yourself.

@Ireland, yeah #44 mentioned sales, read again.

@48: It’s 2:40pm current time here, and the store is due to open at 4:00pm.

Just sitting here, playing a ridiculous FM2012 demo (They want £98m for Chiellini!!???), and waiting…

Seriously, you should get a 5.1 system. Not only will CoD sound much better with bass (and knowing when people are behind you), but so will all your other games.

@49: LOL! Troll can’t read!

@52:

That’s fair enough. I haven’t got it yet, but from what I’ve seen so far, there’s loads of new stuff.

It just doesn’t look new, which I think is the biggest stumbling block for most people, and one which IW could theoretically have changed very easily.

If this only turns out to be what MW2 should have been, it’ll still be the best online FPS so far IMHO.

Yeah but at the end of the day nothing does the pleasure of slitting some snotty nose kids throat who has just ass raped u 5 times like cod does.

And then maybe waiting for him to come back (Because he fucking well will come back), and shooting his fucking head off.

And then maybe moving across the room whilst he comes back again like a wounded bear and ROFLMAO as the proxy takes him out for the final humiliation.

Now that’s COD baby.

Having read a couple of reviews notably IGN Edge and EG this game looks like really good value for money.

I found this quote from EG quite interesting.

Comparisons to Battlefield 3 are expected, but played back-to-back, also fairly futile. Where multiplayer is concerned, the two are far more different than their surface similarities would suggest. Where COD wins out is in its coherence.

Away from online, Battlefield 3 felt uncertain, its half-baked campaign and co-op modes dictated by the sudden marketing-led rebranding as the multimillion-dollar David to Activision’s billion-dollar Goliath. Modern Warfare 3, on the other hand, feels like a complete package from the start; the three gameplay areas – solo, co-op and multiplayer – all feeling like parts of a cohesive whole, driven by a clear and honed declaration of intent.

Lol. All the battlefield “fans” are excited. Now they won’t be getting raped by cod guys while crying “all you care about is k/d”. :D Oh, and for the record, I love battlefield and I’m good. Really good….

Minor tweakings are there because it’s good already, give it a 10…

Activision in their endless wisdom decided to send a copy of the 360 game to PC GAMER to review.

Also no copy for RPS or any PC specific review publication. Strange after all that tooting of the PC horn that IW went through. I wonder why.

I’m sure that it’s a good game and everything, but looking at those scores, shouldn’t people be slightly concerned that only 2 or 3 out of what, 30 critics, DO NOT give it a 9/10 or equivalent?

Not knocking the game, but the fact that everybody and their mom seems to feel the same way about it is just batshit.

More importantly, who’s playing it? How good is it? Impressions, stat!

I think the conspiracy theory regarding BF3 players and their astute sense of when they’re dealing with CoD players is ridiculous for more than just being incredibly stupid.

Really, BF3 needs CoD players more than ever. All people seem to want to do is sit around and trade shots with the enemy and throw packs at their guys because that’s “SUPER PRO DEFENCE”.

@DSB, Basic rule of a journalism in videogames these days: Never dissapoint huge publishers when AAA comes out.

When AAA comes out it must have 9-10 at minimum. 8 – is a bad game or a VERY BAD GAME.

Expect after few years to have something like 11/10 out of every AAA title. Hell, it’s already started with Uncharted 2…

@77 You’ll note that I didn’t at any point mention the c-word.

I think there are more hopelessly incompetent basement bloggers posing as critics, than there are actual critics being paid off in that business :)

I think it’s more a case of not wanting to “disappoint people” by writing your actual opinion, which completely undermines the whole thing. If you’re trying to think for your audience, then what you’re doing is either math or clairvoyance, rather than actual criticism.

Not that MW3 wouldn’t be worthy of a 9. It’s just the fact that you have 30 people seemingly thinking the exact same things, which doesn’t make them look very good.

I reckon the scores are for the overall package DSB.
IGN and EG both said the sp is nothing new really.
I think Edge may have said something similar.

Lets be honest, 99.9 % of folks buying this expect nothing special of the sp.
The other .1% have probably never played a game before so will be blown away by the speed in which the sp moves whilst not realising you could smoke a ciggy in most missions whilst your ai buddies do the work. :D

I found a few reviwers in Norway who tells it clear and loud.
The SP has left it’s roots from an involving story which shows the gritty truth of war and there was actually some meaning of those war qoutes when you die and wait for the respawn. In other words, it’s just some B ranked Hollywood movie with childrens dying.

The MP is as harsh as ever and not being able to play by the rules will result in death over and over. Not keeping up with everyone else will just mean your a noob and death is imminent.

Spec Ops is the bright side which gives soemthing new to the game, and good enough to give the game 4/6.

@82 Well it’s not that I disagree, I never played a Modern Warfare I didn’t like. I just wonder what makes everybody end up with 9′s. Surely someone out there must’ve enjoyed it slightly less, to the point of giving an 8 or a 7. It just doesn’t seem like people have a lot of interesting opinions on it.

@83 That’s pretty much been the case for the better part of six years now. And really, let’s be serious here, the original Call of Dutys never really got close to something like Saving Private Ryan in terms of the real brutality of war. They were just Hollywood enough to make you think that way.

I have no idea what happens to children in MW3, but in terms of the “gritty truths of war” – The fact is that women and children quite often end up as civilian casualties, because they generally hesitate more, and run slower.

@84

“The fact is that women and children quite often die a lot more than men do, because they generally hesitate more, and run slower.”

Cruicially, they’re also less likely to get killstreaks and the associated care-packages assigned to them thereby further ensuring an easier death.

Well i have heard that they are easing up on the Party Chat restrictions which is great news. Me and my fellow gaming friends are within the 28-35 bracket and don’t really want to listen to an American 12 year old (no offense im generalizing)shouting down the headset to tell us they are going to **** our mothers and how we have been “owned” simply because we are all employed and can’t spend 24 hours a day to becoming an elite MW2 player lol. We all sold MW2 for just that reason!
You just cant fault the effort put into the gameplay of the MW series. especially when you catch yourself comparing every 1st person shooter against them. it has become the standard for such games so does deserve a high rating. though i do wish there was a “no little sh*ts” option with the new game as well :D

I loved the first Modern Warfare campaign, I thought it was amazing, actually it still is amazing.

Then the series kinda turned into a Tom Clancy tribute act with the levels of stupid it started pumping into things, instead of being similar quality between two different viewpoints it started to be apparent in MW2 that two different teams were working on each part of the campaign. The American invasion was visually lacking and devoid of anything arresting or interesting. It was busy work mainly while the SAS segments were fast and flowing.

Now having seen the infamous leaked London video im under no illusion that things have gotten even worse. Its as if they took every measure to make London as British as possible without having pearly kings wandering about.

Not interested in the multiplayer what so ever, never have been. Theres just something about the never ending movement which seems really silly within the context of the entire game.

@88 Whoa whoa whoa. Tom Clancy tribute act?

Maybe you’re referring to the Ubisoft games with the name on it, in which case I totally get it, but Tom Clancy is pretty much the master of writing fiction based on actual military and intelligence science.

One of his books actually had an extremist hijacking a plane for the purpose of striking a target in Washington D.C., before 9-11 ever happened.

I think he deserves better than being associated with the Modern Warfare plots :P

@89 User reviews are always perfectly balanced, fair and accurate.

A worthy successor, spectacular, yet slightly problematic when it comes down to its AI. As MW3 offers a great experience and a strong multiplayer mode, it can be recommended.

I’ve played and completed the singleplayer on Hardened difficulty now. I’ve also played a few hours on multiplayer and special ops, and I can safely say it’s pretty much MW2 with a bit more spit and polish. The singleplayer is crazy short (once again), I completed it in 4hr 35 minutes, however it is good fun.

Special Ops is an improvement, but I still feel disappointed by it. Only two players! That really sucks.

If you are looking for more of the same, then this is for you, but as for me I’m going back to BF3.
