Report – Neil Burger in talks to helm Uncharted film

The Uncharted film may have found a new writer and director in Neil Burger.

Variety reports Burger is in negotiations to take over the project.

Sony Pictures and producers Avi Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are said to have approved Burger’s pitch.

Burger directed Limitless, The Lucky Ones, The Illusionist and Interview with Assassin. He also wrote the latter three screenplays.

The film was previously in the hands of David O. Russell, of The Fighter and I Heart Huckabees fame. His version was to star Mark Wahlberg in a story about a family of criminals defending justice and honour.

Rumours say Sony wasn’t impressed.

Thanks, Kotaku.

Does this mean there’s another chance of getting Nathan Fillon cast as Drake?

Let get the campaign started now!

Hopefully he will be smart and write a brand new story that makes justice to the game.

Well, let’s hope he tries to make a movie based on Uncharted games and NOT on some stupid and unrelated self-made project like O. Russell was.

The critical reception on his four films so far have been good for the most part:

Interview with Assassin – 67%
The Illusionist – 74%
The Lucky Ones – 36%
Limitless – 70%

Not as great a record as O. Russell but I approve – as long as the De Niro casting in Limitless was a one-off. :) Mind you, if he does get the project, Bradley Cooper as Drake will be a very real possibility.

This guy seems like someone who might want to keep the tone the games have and handle characters well. Bradley Cooper as Drake is much better in my view than Mark Wahlberg.

Actually, except for being a little too tall for the part, Bradley Cooper is a perfect fit for Nathan Drake
