Rumour - Sony unimpressed by David O. Russell's Uncharted ideas, Wahlberg out

Anonymous sources have told the LA Times Sony wasn't pleased by David O. Russell's ideas for the upcoming Uncharted script, leading to the director stepping away from the project.

Sources said the I Heart Huckabees director had turned in a script "so long and so ambitious" that Sony was put off.

The film is still said to be in the works, but will start again with a new director and writer, and an old draft script by some of the team behind an upcoming adaptation of Conan the Barbarian.

Mark Wahlberg is not expected to star in the new version of the film, having been Russell's choice for protagonist Nathan Drake.

Russell has interpreted the Uncharted canon in an extremely losse manner, to the dismay of fans. His script concerned the activities of a family of criminals, art heists, and the pursuit of justice. Huh.
