Hellgate to relaunch as F2P this year, closed beta starts in June

HanbitSoft has announced it will launch Hellgate as a free-to-play MMO later this year.

A closed beta for the title is scheduled to run from June 3 to June 5 and details on how to participate will be announced soon.

HanbitSoft announced back in January 2010 it has acquired the rights to the Hellgate: London IP, after the closure of Flagship Studios, and continued to publish and run the title in South Korea after the game servers were shuttered in February 2009.

The publisher announced the game would go free-to-play in January 2009.

Thanks, Shack.

I also enjoyed the game. It’s an FPS in an MMO environment and I really like that, even if it’s not a true MMO as far as online connectivity with 100s or 1000s of people. I didn’t subscribe though, and it seems most people with hate for the game did and ended up feeling ripped off.
