Angry Birds downloaded 200 million times

You know what’s a really big number? The number of times people have nabbed a copy of casual blockbuster Angry Birds.

Eurogamer reports that Angry Birds and its Rio and Seasons editions have genred 200 million downloads since the original’s launch on iPhone in December 2009.

The game is currently available on Android, iDevice, PC, PlayStation 3, PSP, Mac, and online via Chrome as well as various less prominent mobile platforms.Windows Phone 7 will feel its benefit shortly.

The Angry Birds merchandising line, which runs to shirts and plushies, has managed three million units shifted.

A TV show, movie, ad board game are all in the works.

I played the web-based version last week and…. er…. I can’t really see why it’s so popular, to be honest. Diverting enough for five minutes, but I’ve had no inclination to go back to it.

@4 I agree. Decent time-waster with some nice artwork, but the same could be said of thousands of other flash games that get released all the time.

I can understand the popularity that something special like Minecraft gets. Angry Birds, however… I am stumped.

@4 Well that’s just it. You’ve played the web-based version! It’s a great game to play while traveling or waiting for an appointment. For me it’s nothing but a time killer. I’m willing to bet that it’s just that, a time killer, for a lot of people.
