Crytek: No other engine can match CryEngine 3

Crytek has boasted that no other current game engine has the grunt to power a game like Crysis 2, and that CryEngine 3 could be used to build “pretty much any other game” from the studio’s competitors.

Despite claims that the company has “never cared about what competitors do”, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told CVG that “any other game that has been shipped with out competitors’ engines could have been done with the Crytek engine.”

Responding positively on the question of whether CryEngine 3 can beat Epic Games’ upcoming Unreal Engine 4, Yerli added that none of Crytek’s rivals could produce Crysis 2.

“I just think that our competitors’ engines couldn’t deliver Crysis 2,” he said. “Crysis 2, from a gameplay and entertainment perspective, just demands so much more.

“… Whether our engine is better or not is something to be judged by the people who use the engine, but I can say that Crysis 2 wouldn’t have been possible with any other engine.”

Thanks, Big Download.

It would be cool if the console version will have a sandbox build in as well. It would be even better if PS3 and PC can cross play and cross mod, that be even better.

@1, they already did… Like 4-5 years ago.

@2, “It would be cool if the console version will have a sandbox build”
You expect to build something in editor with the Playstation controller? *facepalm*
i’m sure for 100% that you think that developers sit down and make games with the controllers.

Awesome man. I love original Crysis. Can’t WAIT to see if they pull off Crysis 2 as much as they’re talking it up. I’ve got a lot of faith in Crytek – I think they’re actually gonna blow us all away, again.

^ I doubt it will be that much of a graphical leap.

Try to make it run in PS3, that’s the freakin’ challenge. Only MGS4 and Uncharted 2 have showed the potential of the console and they were both exclusives, so go suffer CryTek… Let’s see if we are still commenting this when the game is out.

Here’s the thing, Yerli. You can go right ahead and say the things you want to say about your engine and your game. But, there is a specific reason why people will insist on bringing up the likes of Uncharted 2. And that’s art design.

You can build the most technically impressive engine we have ever seen. Having built such an engine, you would still need some focused and consistent art design to make your game stand out. And Crysis just… didn’t. It just felt like a more shiny version of Random FPS #31.

Not to mention that there’s so much more to a good engine than just impressive, state of the art visuals.

@9, I fully agree with you, while Crysis 1 was no doubt visually impressive, i got the meh feeling on the island…
Anyone know if whoever managed to finish that Jurassic Park Mod? That would have been killer.

That screenshot isnt in-game. Its from the intro.

Anyway, meh. From what i’ve seen on of the console version KZ3 looks better.

@11, that looks like in the game. Intro is prerendered engine trailer.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeea… Such a fanboyish statement. I remember playing the beta… 2D explosions from 2000 year that looks like CRAP.

    http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/599/warar.jpg – Killzone 3 graphics. Looks phenomenal.

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1547/esgr.jpg – Thats my favourite. Fingers from the playstation 2 era with models from the last generation Xbox.

Even Halo:Reach models (that also look like crap) look better: http://files.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/233191_S/Halo-Reach.jpg

On consoles there is only RAGE that can compete with Crysis 2 and also it’s a MULTIPLATFORM.
Multiplatform title on the Xbox 360 kicks Ps3 exclusives :D hillarious.

Humility (adjectival form: humble) is the quality of being modest, reverential, even politely submissive, and never being arrogant, contemptuous, rude or even self-abasing.

Don’t ever use pictures to try & prove your pointless point, especially when you look for the worst examples on purpose, EVERY game has weak areas with graphics & glitches & what not.
There’s a reason why you’re the pariah of this site.

    @12
Theres a noticable difference between those screenshots.

As for the rest; Cool story, bro.

In the meantime i’ll wait and see what reviews have to say, though the 2 KZ3 reviews that are already out peg the game as the best looking FPS ever released, but whatever. I’m sure your PhD in PC fanboyism gives only you the abilty to see KZ3 for what it really is. Hence why pretty much no one agrees with you.

Oh, and anyone can cherry pick screenshots:

“Oh, and anyone can cherry pick screenshots:”

Of course… If everything is on LOW quality i can make the same thing on any game.

Textures on high don’t have that crap because engine supports high resolution textures, so this screnshot is pointless because it is on LOW.

I didn’t shoot bad screenshots on purpose.

We can compare original super cool shots from Developers. Not much of a difference.

I just used google and post the first picture there is http://www.gameranx.com/screenshots/1278414564-6_preview.jpg – that looks incredible i must say.

“I’m sure your PhD in PC fanboyism gives only you the abilty to see KZ3 for what it really is. Hence why pretty much no one agrees with you.”

Where in the last sentence i said PC? If not you can go and F your favourite PS3.
Everything what i said here is about “console – multiplatform”.
Killzone 3 looks like crap to almost any big blockbuster FPS this generation (except maybe Call Of Duty).

Crysis 2 or Rage – on (!) consoles (!) looks not just better, but by hundred miles better and these games are multiplats.

“the 2 KZ3 reviews that are already out peg the game as the best looking FPS ever released”

27 days till the game is released and they finished game and wrote a decent review.
This day any console first party blockbuster is: BEST graphics, BEST gameplay, BEST soundtrack and of course 9.5 score.

Keep up believing. Delusional PS3 fanboy. I have Ps3 and PC and i can compare them, while you will pray to your PS3 like a tool because company advertised it as a SUPERGRAPHIGZ. Derp.

Hey Crytek when you implement destructible environments and not just pretty backdrops then you can start bragging. Look at the COD series, sure the maps look good but they’re stiff as hell, Shit you can’t even destroy a damn shrub. This is why BF3 will ultimately be the game to beat in 2011. Yea, I said it ! BF3 will ultimately be the game to beat in 2011.

Actually those Crysis screenshots i posted are in ultra high settings. Though i doubt they’re using some mod to make the game look better, like the pics you post.

Oh and i own Crysis and Warhead, beaten them both too, at the highest settings.

Hey Erth, that screen shot of crysis has slightly low res blurred ground textures. Watch predator than look at the screen shot u posted. By the way the snow/ice levels of uncharted 2 look more real than that screen shot. Crysis sucked in the artistic design department, uncharted 2 was a much better looking game! so was uncharted 1, in some levels :P
