Bowie’s son “hugely jealous” of Raimi directing WoW movie, could be first “good” game film

Duncan Jones, the director of movie Moon, says he’s “hugely jealous” of director Sam Raimi being the man in charge of the World of Warcraft movie.

“I’m very cynical of the number of directors who say they’re actual gamers,” he told BadAss Digest (via NME).

“I’m a real gamer and I think there are less real gamers involved in directing only because you have to spend so much time making films that there’s no time to be a hardcore gamer. I’m just slightly insane and I stay up all night playing games.”

Jones, who also happens to be David Bowie’s son, also reckons it could just be the first “good” game-to-film adaptation.

“I’m hugely jealous of Sam Raimi. I really believe World of Warcraft could be the launch of computer games as good films. From the little I’ve read of interviews with him the way he’s approaching it makes so much sense. It’s not worrying about how the game plays, it’s about creating the world of the game and investing the audience in that world.”

The last heard on the WoW movie was that it was put on the backburner. But at BlizzCon last October, Blizzard loremaster Chris Metzen made a massive vow: “We are going to do it right.”

Duncan Jones will be alright without the world of warcraft movie under his belt. He’s not ready for it imo, he needs to build up to the super summer blockbusters. Grind some more.

Why have people suddenly cottoned on to Duncan Jones being Bowie’s son?

When Moon was released I never EVER saw anyone refer to him as anything other than Duncan Jones.

All the Spidey films were pretty poor, the choice of actors re: Parker and MJ chief amongst them.
As usual it’s up to the villains to carry the movies. Apart from 3, all of them were woeful.
Evil Dead 1 & 2 are superb, but a two belters at the start of a career when he has everything to prove and the passion to carry it through, doesn’t mean his films will be worth a damn in later years. Drag me to Hell was pish.
It’s like comparing the first Korn album to Korn III ( nine albums down the line).
The thrill is gone, baby.

Up until WoW WarCraft did have a great story, sure, Blizzard collected plenty of sci-fi/fantasy tropes but it was cohesive and clicked. The WarCraft II manual alone is great to read. Forcing a story onto an MMO though has made it irrelevant. There’s too much of everything now in it.

As for Spiderman, the animated cartoons beat the hell out of the movies in a way it isn’t even funny anymore.
