Rein: Epic Citadel downloaded over 1 million times, UDK coming for iOS

Epic’s Mark Rein’s confirmed that Epic Citadel’s been downloaded more than 1 million times from the App Store.
Epic Citadel is designed to show off Unreal Engine on iDevices.
As noted on Epic’s site: “Players navigate a fictional castle realm using simple and intuitive touch controls. It’s all about exploring the world, from the circus bazaar to the bridge overlooking the river to the mysterious cathedral at the center of town. Look around, navigate the area and enjoy the dazzling visuals.”
Rein also said via Twitter from Korea yesterday that, “The Unreal Development Kit (UDK) has is now over 350,000 installations which is pretty amazing for a game engine like ours.”
Take a look at it, if you haven’t already.
Rein also posted in the comments below that UDK will soon be made available for all iOS devices.
“We also announced that UDK, the free version of Unreal Engine 3, would soon allow developers to make apps for iOS devices,” said the developer.
“That means this technology will be available to anyone. See www.udk.com to try it for yourself.”
Supported devices are supported devices are iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, 3rd gen iPod touch, 4th gen iPod touch and iPad.

It is boring. But it looks stunning. Beats some of the stuff ive seen on a DS or PSP.
Its got good potential.

It’s only a tech demo, but a very impressive one at that.

Regarding the DS, this is hardly a difficult thing to achieve :p
Tap Tap Revolution looks better than some DS games :p

It is incredibly restricted in terms of interaction etc, but it’s very impressive as a tech demo. It’s significantly more impressive than any other handheld device and actually closer to what you see on the PS3/360. Well in excess of the PSP and DS.

Wow, that’s gorgeous for a handheld. Kicks the shit out of the DS and the PSP, that’s for sure.

if the ipad/phone/pad has more power than the psp, then why does each remake feature the DS version with some touch ups? (GTA China Town Wars for example).
I’d like a tablet fully capable of running proper linux & some decent/modern games, idk why Linux gets no support, it’s the best OS, expecially for it’s price, FREE!

I was skeptical on iOS gaming till this…. WOW!!! Epic could easily have Elder Scrolls Oblivion in your pocket with much better graphics! I am impressed beyond words!
