Bye-bye, Butterfree: Pokemon Black/White to only have new Pokemon until you’ve beaten the game

Pokemon? Without Pikachu?

Great, Nintendo. You just broke the world. Do you have any idea how much it’s gonna cost to fix this?

Over on his blog (translation via Andriasang), GameFreak’s Junichi Masuda revealed that you won’t see hide nor hair nor flaming tail of your favorite classic critters until you “beat” Black or White – which we’re guessing involves mopping the floor with its Elite Four, Fantastic Five, Superior Six, or whatever we’re calling them these days.

Masuda explained that he hopes this will allow the latest Pokemon generation to recapture the feel of the first games in the series by presenting an unpredictable, unexplored world full of fresh faces.

But are they cuddly travel companions or hideous, pock-marked pocket monstrosities? You be the judge. Click through the link for a few images of the Pokemon class of 2011. We’re particularly fond of the one that looks like a rabid raccoon crossed with Futurama’s Hypnotoad. And for some reason, we feel compelled to give all glory to him. Weird.

Lol, “and the winnder of the beauty camp goes to….
    H-Y-P-N-O-T-O-A-D! All glory to H-Y-P-N-O-T-O-A-D!”
also, crap idea. A pokemon game where I can’t chose between a charmander, a squirtle and a bulbasor is NOT a pokemon game.

This is a great idea! I remember how I felt when I played through the first games, so I think it is a wonderful idea. Makes me actually want this one, because it isn’t too much of a retread like te last few.

Yeah obviously done this as otherwise everyone would still just use the classics and not care about the new ones, how many fucking pokemon are there these days anyways? Have they gotten to stage yet where one is like a shoe and another one is like a stick or something?

i preferred platinum a 100000 X more than diamon & pearl cuz they did NOT do this, feels awfully limited seeing the same pokemon in a dozen different areas & this will suffer fromt it til they bring out the special edition
@3, idk about stick, but there’s a tree one which has been there since the 2nd gen, sudowoodo or something like that, also a few berry looking ones

@5 A small handful of 1st generation Pokemon could be caught in most/all Pokemon games… then once you beat it you could trade your g1 Pokemon and/or go back to Kanto and collect them depending on which game you were playing. It’s sounds like this time around you wont be able to catch/trade a single one until you beat it.
