Mafia II loses multiple endings

Mafia II producer Denby Grace has revealed to IncGamers that the game will now have just one ending instead of having “OK” multiple endings.
He said the endings just weren’t up to scratch, and decided instead to go for “one great ending.”
“We had four multiple endings at one point in the game, and then we looked at it and we had one really outstanding great ending to end our story,” he said.
“We worked on these things and we have our players that focus test [the game] and we found that people were just replaying and ultimately only felt satisfied when they got to the one GREAT ending.”
He went on to add: “We just said ‘You know what? Let’s just ditch these other endings, this is the ending everyone wants’ and that’s one thing we’re happy with making that choice.”
Goodo.
Mafia II releases on August 27 for PS3, 360 and PC.

One GREAT ending eh?
I’ll hold you to that.

I tend not to play this sort of game more than once, so one great ending is fine by me.

Playing through an open world game 4 times is asking to much.

I’ve just ended Singularity and it has three different endings. Well, you know what? The autosave in the game, saves just one minute before you take the decision leading to a particular ending, so that you can easily “start from the end” and try the other ones.
This is, in my opinion, a good way to allow users experience other endings without gettin’ bored.

I always feel a bit cheated when you can do that. If you’re going to do multiple endings then the ending you get should be determined by how you play throughout the entire game, not down to a ‘which ending do you want to see?’ multiple choice moments five minutes before you’re done.

I agree with you, but if a game takes many hours to be completed and, morever, if it’s a wide sand-box game, you may be tired of re-playing the game and stroll in the same areas already visited again and again.

In which case they should’ve just had a single ending, as they’ve done here.

Yep, without any doubt a single great ending is the best choice instead of having different low quality alternate endings.

a good or bad ending works, like bioshock and demons souls. You can always just jump on youtube to watch the other endings.
I don’t like 8 alternate endings with obscure factors affecting which one you get…looking at you silent hill 2, now thats a game that deserved one amazing ending, at it stands i can’t even remember what happened at the end
