Bungie considered making Halo 4 instead of Reach

Bungie’s Brian Jarrard has said that at one time the developer considered making Halo 4 starring Master Chief instead of Reach.

Instead, the team decided to create a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved.

“Even before the idea to build a game based around Reach came about, a lot of other concepts were explored, up to and including a proper Halo 4, where Master Chief was going to wake up from cryo-sleep and we were going to tell that story”, Jarrard told MTV.

Instead, Halo 4 never made it out of pre-production because, according to Jarrard, “it just wasn’t as interesting to the team to just pick up where that left off and all the baggage that came with it.”

Sweet dreams then Master Chief, we reckon.

Halo: Reach is slated for September 14.

Reach looks decent. Glad they stayed away from Halo 4 idea…for now…

Guess they were told to stay away from Halo 4 since it will probably be used as a launch game for the next Xbox.

^ Wait, dont MS actually already have a new team -a dev studio they made solely to make Halo games- working on Halo 4 right now?

Probably. I like the Halo 4 launch game idea for eventual next system. Since it’s a new team, they could call it Halo 4: Reborn….or something like that.

The next Halo game needs to be a reboot, reintroduce everything get rid of the convoluted mythos that only 3 people understand etc. 343 should get to do thier own Halo story instead of continuing what Bungie did.

@6…so why, exactly, would it need to be called “Halo” then?

@7: “For the very first time.” Seriously, Bungie has been saying goodbye for over 3 years now. Play them off already.
