Greenberg: We’re not worried about Natal name change

Microsoft has said that it’s not worried about any potential confusion that may arise from Project Natal changing its name to Kinect.

Director of Product Management for Xbox Aaron Greenberg told IGN that, as far as Microsoft was concerned, most of the market never knew of the product anyway.

“What’s interesting is that despite everything we’ve done for Natal — and people are very excited about it — the actual awareness around the name is not as high as you would think,” he said.

“I think the right time is now. One, we love the name, so that helps. Two, people will realize it makes sense…It fits. Then three, a lot of people that are going to be watching and learning about this for the first time ever, they’re going to learn about the new name.”

Greenberg also added that he hopes Microsoft’s antics, which involved Cirque-du-Soleil launching Kinect, will help the device appeal to a wider audience.

“That’s our belief, that [Kinect] has this universal appeal and it’s not just this thing for current owners. It delivers all new experiences for us, but it also enables non-gamers, it enables people that never thought of gaming as a way to interest them.”

Microsoft certainly seems to have made some sort of impact, with Kinect trending on Twitter and having journalists everywhere talking about it.

We will find out what more Microsoft have in store for us with the camera and more at its main presser tonight.

    I think all Microsoft is worried. I mean they put a LOT of money to the hype train.

    and in my opinion, even for the casual player that camera is not a big deal.

    He’s right of course. Only people who reads forums like this know about the name Natal and at the end of the day what the device does is important, not what it’s called.

    @2

    Depends on the game, but a number of demos have been shown which have virtually no lag.

    @3

    Trolling again. Every E3 thread so far.

    Genuine question…is it all good though? Move had journalists talking, but it wasn’t very complimentary.

    “I know a bunch of non gamers who know what Natal is.”

    So you know some of the small number of people who know what Natal/Kinect is. Big whoop, that doesnt change a thing.

    You and your circle of friends are not the entire gaming community, and are most likely not the people that this product is initially aimed at.

    I know man. What a bunch of dumb fucks at Microsoft. No one there has ever accomplished as much as you, or any of the critics on this site. What the fuck, man? You haven’t even played the thing…you haven’t even SEEN the thing, and it is already not good enough for you or half the people on VG247. What have YOU ever done that would sell even ONE item? What have YOU ever done that pushed technology? What have YOU ever done that would have even 100 people stand up and say ‘wow…thats kind of cool’? Anything?

    Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are BRILLIANT companies with BRILLIANT people working for them. Even their worst product is more advanced and incredible than anything 99.999999% of anyone bothering to read anything on these forums have ever done. Perhaps a better approach would be to…I don’t know…PLAY with the thing before you bury it? Maybe its buggy as hell and a piece of shit. Maybe it will change human society as we know it. YOU…DON’T…KNOW..you and people like yourself see other people’s accomplishments as failures while you yourself haven’t accomplished anything even remotely close to what the people you throw stones at have done. Those who can’t do…criticism.

    Grow the hell up and be excited for new things. You might actually LIKE them. Or, just bury your head in the sand and be pissed that others ‘do’ while you ‘do nothing’.
